2000 Viña Valoria Blanco Crianza Rioja, Spain

SKU #1041904

From an historic boutique winery in the Spain's Rioja Alta region, which opened in 1860 in Logroño, a historically rich winemaking town. The winery is owned by the Perez Foncea family. This wine is 100% viura, and it is the current vintage, yep 2000. So, why is it that this Crianza is already eight years old? It was oak aged and held in bottle for quite a while, which adds complexity and length to this dry, rich, golden colored beauty. To best appreciate its uniquness, enjoy with paté or on its own as an aperitif.

Very cool wine here. White Rioja with bottle age, that is white Rioja with bottle age that is not Lopez de Heredia, seems to be an increasing rarity, but Viña Valoria has come through with a singular bottling showcasing the style. And it's a great value as well. Apple compote and candied yellow fruits on the nose lead to a delicious palate, soft, vibrant and delicate. Not quite as oxidative in style as LdH's Gravonia. Delicious and unique oak aged white wine for delicate seafood preparations or perhaps a cheese course. Produced from 100% viura grapes.
