90 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Yellow-gold color. Deep, smoky orchard and pit fruit aromas are complemented by toasty lees and minerals. Juicy, lightly sweet pear and white peach flavors deliver solid punch, with good back-end grip. Spicy notes build on the long, sappy finish, which echoes the leesy and mineral qualities." (Nov/Dec '07) If you're looking for an über-decadent Chardonnay, this isn't for you. But, if you like a wine with great texture, acidity and purity, then buy, buy, buy! Winemaker Greg Brewer exhibits wonderful restraint with the 2007 "Verna's" Chardonnay, allowing only partial malolactic fermentation (15%) and sur lie aging without the aggressive stirring of many other California Chards. What results is an elegant, balanced wine with quince, pear, ginger and tamarind aromas and a palate with a lovely sea foam, stony component. Subtle hints of wild sage, carrot and hazelnut add another dimension, lifted by cool-climate acidity and great mid-palate texture.
