92 points from Wine Spectator: "Dark, rich and vibrant, with juicy wild berry and blackberry fruit that's shaded by spicy herb, mineral, bay leaf and pepper-tobacco scents. Tightly focused and smooth-textured, ending with a long, complex finish. Drink now through 2012. 1,000 cases made." (Web Only '08) From the dynamic duo that brought you the incredible, affordable and utterly delicious Central Coast Syrah. The "Head Honcho" is a selection of a few of the best barrels from the Central Coast Syrah, as well as small lots from McPrice Myers Wine Co and Herman Story and it is amazing. The deluge of aromatics seems never ending: plum, blood orange, currant, raspberry, bacon fat, Provençal herbs and a hint of chocolate. In the mouth it's more like Salome's Dance of the Seven Veils. Seductive notes of mint, raspberry, cassis and black pepper flutter on your palate, carried by fine tannins and beautiful acidic lift. An amazingly age-worthy syrah that won't leave you busted for as long as it takes to evolve in bottle.
