2008 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough

SKU #1041388

91 points and #40 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2008: "Fragrant and complex, with a refreshing burst of lime, guava, grapefruit and grass flavors. Wet stone, passion fruitand oyster shell accents add interest, with bright acidity highlighting the vivid finish. Another outstanding Sauvignon from a perennial success." (12/08). 90 points and an Editors' Choice, Wine Enthusiast: "This medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc strums the right chords, combining notes of crushed tomato leaf with citrusy fruit to make a pretty melody. A hint of creaminess rounds out the midpalate, and the wine finishes long, with pristine cleanliness." (03/09) This brand-spanking-new 2008 is another in a list of tremendously tasty, fruit-forward wines from this estate/negociant in New Zealand. Never oaked, also refreshing, this is an ideal warm-weather wine, espcially when combined with shrimp and other shellfish!

This is an absolute bargain. Clearly a volume wine but for the price and the quality its hard to beat if you like SB style whites.

Strong passion fruit and grapefruit aromas, refreshing acidity. One of the best NZ Sauvignon Blancs I've tasted.

Dry, light, refreshing, grapefruity. Perfect for late afternoons on the deck sipping.

Additional Information:

Varietal:

Sauvignon Blanc

- Sauvignon Blanc 34 As the backbone of the delicious Loire Valley wines like Sancerre and Pouilly Fume, Sauvignon Blanc remains a very popular varietal, but is has not seen expansive new plantings in California like Chardonnay. The reality is that in most California viticultural areas, planting Merlot or Cabernet will return more money to the grower. However, there are still some excellent Sauvignon Blanc plots in the golden state, and we're happy that the great Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in California continue to produce this fantastic varietal. Sauvignon Blanc is also extremely popular in Bordeaux, where it is used alone or with Semillon to produce the fine dry and sweet wines in Graves and Sauternes. Here is a list of our bestselling Sauvignon Blanc.
Country:

New Zealand

- A Southern Pacific island 1,000 miles from the nearest land-mass (Australia), New Zealand has a maritime climate, suitable for wine production of excellent quality. For better or worse, this was discovered by New Zealand agriculturalists relatively recently (end of the 20th century), thus the wine industry is virtually brand new. Although most influenced by Australian academia, New Zealand's wine industry has begun to adopt many European and California viticultural and enological practices. Although the New Zealand wine biz is known most for its Sauvignon Blanc, the most planted variety is Chardonnay, with Pinot Noir gaining in popularity.
