93 points Robert Parker: "The more supple 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Phaedrus is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot. Aged 16 months in one-half new French oak, there are 719 cases of this beauty. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by loads of creme de cassis fruit intermingled with notions of roasted herbs, coffee beans, licorice, and a subtle touch of background oak. The noble sweetness of the tannins, luscious, velvety textured mid-palate, and long finish suggest this wine can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15+ years. " (12/08) Wolf Family Vineyards offers estate grown wines in artisanal quantities hand made by Karen Culler in the small winery and cave on the estate. Phaedrus, an alternate label, is crafted to be immediately drinkable, though it shares many of the hallmarks of the Wolf Family's estate cabernet--namely dense cassis fruit, ample structure and tannin and a long finish that calls to mind Cabs costing three times this much. Enjoy now with BBQ or any red meat.
