2005 Kolheita de Ideias "Esboço" Douro

SKU #1039375

Kolheita de Ideias is a high-quality, small-scale negociant operation established in 2001 with the vision to construct great wines. The three young Turks: Luís Soares Duarte, Francisco Ferreira and Rui Moreira purchase grapes from the three different Douro regions to produce three wines: Kolheita, K and Esboço, which is mainly Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca, 40% of which is aged in French oak. Vivacious and full of bright black cherry and berry fruit. Impressive!

Fans of Zinfandel take note of this beauty from Portugal...This has got to be one of the top big reds in our current selection and reminds me of a little bit drier Ridge Lytton Springs, with a nice little tannic hit as if it had a tad of Petite Sirah thrown in. This dark, brooding red is powerful, but not a blunt instrument with full mouthfeel and a little bit of refreshment on the finish. A must for your next tri-tip feed!
Top Value! Drink from 2008 to 2010

Portugal is Europe's fourth-largest wine-producing region, and has been exporting its wine since the 14th century. The Douro Valley of Portugal is the original and current home for the world's finest Port. The valley spans from east of the city of Oporto all the way to the border of Spain and is the country's best known wine region.
