2005 Patient Cottat Sauvignon Blanc

SKU #1037243

The 2005 vintage has produced some of the most outstanding Loire Sauvignon Blancs we have tasted in quite some time. They combine freshness and verve with effusive fruit and mineral aromas that waft from the glass. This delicious wine comes from a combination of vineyard sites both in Verdigny in Sancerre and some parcels just outside the appellation to the west. The Fournier family, with roots as deep as their vines in this region seem to be related to just about everyone in some way and have for generations been farming and producing wines in Sancerre. We are pleased to have been offered this wine first at such a great price and took everything there was, which we will follow exclusively with the 2006 vintage in some months to come. This bright Sauvignon manages to temper the warmth of the 05 vintage with subtle expressions of chalk and green melon with candied citrus and fennel with a slight peppery finish. It is gentle and yet lively, very inviting and just plain fun to drink. Grab a case at this price and make this your house white, have a glass after work to wash away the day and take you into dinner.

Additional Information:

Varietal:

Sauvignon Blanc

- Sauvignon Blanc 34 As the backbone of the delicious Loire Valley wines like Sancerre and Pouilly Fume, Sauvignon Blanc remains a very popular varietal, but is has not seen expansive new plantings in California like Chardonnay. The reality is that in most California viticultural areas, planting Merlot or Cabernet will return more money to the grower. However, there are still some excellent Sauvignon Blanc plots in the golden state, and we're happy that the great Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in California continue to produce this fantastic varietal. Sauvignon Blanc is also extremely popular in Bordeaux, where it is used alone or with Semillon to produce the fine dry and sweet wines in Graves and Sauternes. Here is a list of our bestselling Sauvignon Blanc.
