Barrel sample. Very ripe, almost sweet fruit gives this wine a delicious, open, generous feel. Red fruits are the dominant character, layered with some spicy new wood that develops at the end.

Connoisseurs Guide
*Good Value* Great vintages are supposed to produce great values, and here is the single most priceworthy wine in this Issue. Its aromas are on the tight side at present but do offer glimmers of black cherries, caramel, cedar and dried bark, and its palatal impressions build from there. If still developing in flavors, the wine's suggestions of suppleness to come are nicely aligned with sweet fruit ready to emerge with just a bit of time.

Wine Spectator
Soft and velvety, with blackberry, mineral and light mint character on the nose and palate. Medium- to full-bodied, with a caressing texture. There's lovely balance to this. Best after 2011.

K&L Notes
Maybe the single best example of just how great the value side of 2005 Bordeaux really is. Phenomenal wine. We sold out quickly the last three times we go this in, so don't dawdle. K&L's Notes: From the barrel, toasty oak aromas and red fruit flavors. Elegant. Easy drinker. Value? 1/2 * The wine is even better now with some age on it. I love this property for their very fruit forward, silky wines. A delicious wine to enjoy over the next five years. Decant. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Bordeaux buyer) Three stars San Francisco Chronicle in their review "Red Bordeaux $50 or Less": "A bright nose of black fruit with hints of smoke and black pepper is uplifted with floral, minty notes. The elegant, lush palate follows through with fruit that is balanced with perfect acidity and velvety tannins. Small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Perfect to enjoy now, but has enough stuff to age nicely. Unbelievable value."
