2006 Gaia Estate Nótios Agiorgitiko, Nemea, Péloponnèse, Greece

SKU #1036444

100% Agiorgitiko. Agiorgitiko, also know as St. George, is a grape native to the Nemea region in the northeastern part of the Péloponnèse. It is also known as one of the two great heat resistant indigenous reds along with Xinomavro. The wines of Agiorgitiko can range from very soft and plumy to big and bold with firm tannins and very dark in color. The Gaia Estate is respected as one of the top wineries in Greece and this wine shows they can produce a delicious uncomplicated red that is soft and juicy with a spicy and fruity nose reminiscent of some Rhone wines.

Greece

- We have the Greeks to thank for introducing wine into Italy and France. And while the legacy of ancient Greek culture lives on, little recognition is given to its modern-day contributions to the wine industry. From the Peloponnese in the south, to Macedonia and Epirus in the north, and islands like Crete, Samos and Santorini, fine wine is once again being made and most of it from indigenous grape varieties not grown in other countries. Styles range from hearty, rustic reds to crisp, neutral whites and heavenly dessert wines. Click for a list of bestselling items from Greece.
