The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot) possesses a sweet, jammy bouquet of black currants intermixed with barbecue smoke, tobacco, espresso, and herbs.
Tight, earthy and unusually tannic for this wine, with fresh earth, mineral and dried currant fruit shaded by a dill-coconut flavor.
It was a big year for Merlot and friends at Silver Oak: the 2003 Napa Valley is a blend of just 78% Cabernet Sauvignon with 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The winery's current library notes: "The 2003 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark ruby-red color and a nose of black cherry, blackberry and violets. It has a complex fruity attack, an elegant mid-palate and a long moderately tannic finish. This wine will continue to improve to 2024, given proper cellaring."
