*Editor's Choice* In a recent series of entry-level Madeiras, this was a standout, offering excellent complexity and richness at a reasonable price. Nuts, toffee and dried fruit aromas and flavors swirl together, balancing moderate sweetness with harmonious acids. Long on the finish. (11/ 2006)
Lively and rich, with a hazelnut nose and apricot, pear and almond flavors. Long, spice- and mineral-filled finish. Quite fresh-tasting. (Web Only- 2008)
Sercial is the driest style of Madeira; this one was aged in the traditional "Canteiro" system using American oak casks. Because this Madeira is fined, it doesn't require decanting. Fresh, dry fruit flavors tending toward citrus and highlighted by wood spice. It has a nutty, lingering finish. Perfect as an aperitif, this will also pair well with appetizers and, surprisingly, Indian cuisine!
