This is a funky, herbal, and brawny absinthe. The dark greenish-brown color louches to a swampy dark green. Earthy aromas include lemon balm, tarragon and star anise; louching brings anise to the foreground. There’s pure star anise flavor, with an aggressive, tarragon finish and a big, mouth-coating feel, which oddly grows even thicker with ice water. The apothecary bottle and label design is fun and appealing, but the cork closure makes it difficult to recap for storage. (12/ 2010)
