2005 Château de Montfaucon "Baron Louis" Côtes du Rhône
Still muscular, with blackberry and black currant fruit, black tea, graphite and espresso notes that all meld together nicely on the lengthy finish. Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Carignane, Counoise and Mourvèdre. (Web-2009)
Very rich and smooth and still quite vigorous. No loss of fruit from its time in bottle. There is still considerable ripe fruit character and quite a bit of dry tannin on the finish. No hurry to drink this.
Just across the Rhône river from the esteemed vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this 88-acre estate is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a UC Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking staff at Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe (in Châteauneuf). This prestige cuvee will age well for many years. 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, and 10% Carignane. Deep color-flashy oaky nose. Spicy with black fruit flavors. 14% abv.
