2006 Brooks Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

SKU #1033855

From Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red. Strawberry and black raspberry on the nose, with gentle floral and cracked pepper qualities adding verve. Red and dark berry flavors offer straightforward appeal and betray no tannins. A fleshy, easygoing style with good finishing sweetness and length." (May/June '08) The 2006 Brooks Willamette Valley Pinot Noir blends fruit from some of the Oregon appellation's best vineyards, including Eola Hills, Hyland, Dion, Battle Creek, Echo Hill, Nicholas and Corral Creek. This wine is a great expression of the precocious 2006 vintage in Oregon, displaying primary aromas of Bing cherries, raspberries, toasty oak, minerals, cassis, red currants, game and baking spices. Secondary aromatics include subtle aromas of blueberries, Indian spices, savory notes of crush herbs, black tea and earth. A core of bright acidity and ripe tannins make for a balanced wine, with depth on the mid-palate and strong minerality. Brilliant.

Additional Information:

Varietal:

Pinot Noir

- The Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in the cooler climate of Burgundy, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne that is used in all of the Côte d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Australia, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success. Here is a list of our bestselling Pinot Noir.
Country:

United States

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world. Sub-Region:

Oregon

- Highly touted for its Pinot Noirs, Oregon is part of the up-and-coming winemaking industry in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Most of Oregon is directly affected by the climate coming off of the Pacific Ocean, giving it mild winters and wet summers. This makes it a difficult place to ripen grapes, but some say that the harder grapes have to struggle, the more complex they will turn out to be. Chardonnay and Pinot Gris are two important and successful grapes grown in Oregon.
