2007 Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

SKU #1033118

Selected from various low yielding vineyards in the Wairau, Brancott, Waihoepai and Awatere valleys, these Sauvignon Blanc grapes were machine harvested and protectively handled. After juice clarification the wine was innoculated with pure, aromatic yeast strains and cool fermented. Once dry the wine was stabilized, filtered and bottled. Aroma: Classic Sauvignon characters of gooseberry, passionfruit, figs and a touch of herbaceousness. Palate: Unfolds with flavours of passionfruit, gooseberry and subtle herbaceousness. The wine is mouthfilling with good texture and finishes well with crisp acidity and great length. 91 points Wine & Spirits: "The kiwi flavors of this wine need air to gain clarity, moving through citrus pith character before resolving cool and crisp. A spark of bright flavor for any raw shellfish." 91 points Wine Spectator: "Concentrated and very intense, weaving together a harmonious medley of crushed stone, grapefruit and ut flavors. Savory herbs, grass and lime notes highlight a bright, virbrant finish. Drink now." (WS Advance 04/08)

Additional Information:

Varietal:

Sauvignon Blanc

- Sauvignon Blanc 34 As the backbone of the delicious Loire Valley wines like Sancerre and Pouilly Fume, Sauvignon Blanc remains a very popular varietal, but is has not seen expansive new plantings in California like Chardonnay. The reality is that in most California viticultural areas, planting Merlot or Cabernet will return more money to the grower. However, there are still some excellent Sauvignon Blanc plots in the golden state, and we're happy that the great Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in California continue to produce this fantastic varietal. Sauvignon Blanc is also extremely popular in Bordeaux, where it is used alone or with Semillon to produce the fine dry and sweet wines in Graves and Sauternes. Here is a list of our bestselling Sauvignon Blanc.
Country:

New Zealand

- A Southern Pacific island 1,000 miles from the nearest land-mass (Australia), New Zealand has a maritime climate, suitable for wine production of excellent quality. For better or worse, this was discovered by New Zealand agriculturalists relatively recently (end of the 20th century), thus the wine industry is virtually brand new. Although most influenced by Australian academia, New Zealand's wine industry has begun to adopt many European and California viticultural and enological practices. Although the New Zealand wine biz is known most for its Sauvignon Blanc, the most planted variety is Chardonnay, with Pinot Noir gaining in popularity.
