The wine was aged for 12 months in large, neutral French oak and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Purple-colored, it has an attractive array of pepper, spicy blackberry, black cherry, and blueberry muffin aromas. Full-bodied and opulent on the palate, the wine delivers gobs of meaty, full-flavored blue and black fruits to accompany its forward, easy-going personality. Drink this incredible value over the next 4-6 years." (10/07) Sourced from hand-harvested, low yielding vines (in this case 100% Shiraz). It is then open fermented and gently basket pressed, and aged on fine lees for 12 months in large format seasoned barrels and foudres. We love its complexity and texture. Supple and so elegant, especially considering the price. 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Torbreck’s entry-level Shiraz boasts lovely aromas of blueberries and spice, with a hint of pepper. On the palate, blueberries and blackberries shine, and the texture is lush, tightening up just enough on the finish. This is a blend of 78 different lots, according to winemaker David Powell, mainly matured in old, large wood. - Syrah is the great red grape of the Northern Rhone, responsible for such fine wines as Hermitage and Cote Rotie. Big, dark and spicy, wines made from this varietal can age as well as Bordeaux. The varietal is gaining popularity in the United States as well as other countries. Since the 1970's, Syrah has spread throughout the Southern Rhone, and Provence regions of France, where it is being bottled as a single varietal wine or in blends. Syrah has also seen tremendous success in Australia where it is commonly called Shiraz (same grape, different name). Brought 'down-under' in the 1830's, Shiraz is widely planted through out Southeastern Australia. The wines range in style from fruity forward wines to big thick port like monsters.
