2004 Kistler "Hyde" Carneros Chardonnay
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Always a show-stopper in terms of aromatics, the flowery 2004 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard offers hints of smoky hazelnuts, honeysuckle, orange blossoms, buttered apples, and white currants. With exuberant fruit, full body, terrific definition and precision, it should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 6-8 years.

Green-gold. Strong iodine and sulfide tones accent bright pink grapefruit and lemon, with an intriguing smoked meat quality adding depth. Deep, concentrated and mineral-driven, with strong citrus and quince flavors, but the soil tones are even more pronounced. A singular, intensely scented and flavored chardonnay, with great character, concentration and power. This was one of the most memorable wines of my trip. Kistler says that it will be the longest-lived of the vintage's chardonnays.
