*Classic/Highest Recommendation* The inviting bouquet offers aromas of fruitcake, banana nut bread, sweet malt, crispy pork rind, sweet oak, vanilla, red grapes and blackberry jam. Entry is sweet and grainy; at midpalate the taste profile suddenly bursts with red fruit presence and oaky vanilla. Finishes clean as a whistle, chewy and concentrated. (7/ 2008)
Fruit is the common thread to this lightly peated whisky; red fruit, that is. Red raspberry, red currant, red seedless grape, strawberry, and red apple. A gentle sweetness (creamy vanilla, light molasses) balances all this fruit. Not overly contemplative, but delightful. This is definitely not the same Rocks I reviewed two years ago. It is richer, darker in color, and tastes more mature. It's an improved version, and my rating reflects this. (Vol. 17, #4)
This is our staff "Best Buy" in our Bruichladdich line up. The Rocks is a very approachable dram and would be great for someone just starting in out in the whisky world or if you are looking for an every day "Laddie". Non-chillfiltered with no additives, the rocks spends 7 years in bourbon before being ace'd in French Wine casks for several months. Their "unpeated" whisky actually has a touch of peat, 3-7 ppm.
