A fruity-sweet whisky (but still quite light and lively), with notes of orange marmalade, lemon meringue pie, and apricot. There’s also an underlying vanilla maltiness that is balanced nicely by oak spice on the finish. A respectable effort for a 10 year old and versatile enough to drink any time of the day (but I would prefer it before dinner). (Vol. 16, #1)
This is a special price on this fantastic single malt of Isle of Arran. The 10 year old starts maturing in Bourbon casks. Woodford Reserve Bourbon is one of the sources for Bourbon casks to Arran and is very similar to Arran as a distillery in the US. Then at Gordon Mitchell's discretion, the Distillery Manager at Arran, the whisky is moves to refill sherry and for the last year of it's life finished in fresh sherry casks. It is medium Amber in color and there is a lot of rich oil in the whisky. Crème brulee, caramel, citrus notes, fresh apple, and pear are apparent on the nose. The palate is creamy with elegance and a lovely balance and complexity that come through with a nice long finish. This is a beautiful dram and a great way to be introduced to the wonderful malts being created on the Isle of Arran! 46% ABV (Susan Purnell, K&L Wine Merchants)
