1985 Glenrothes Distillery Bottle Single Malt Whisky (Previously $216)

SKU #1018294

This is replacing the 1987 Vintage! We have it at a fantastic price! Whilst predominantly sherry casks and refills it has some influence of second-fill bourbon casks giving a deep and rounded flavour and enhancing the deliciously creamy texture. Appearance: Pale golden, clear and bright Bouquet: Medium full, fruity with a high note of vanilla Palate: Full, citrus, orange zest Finish: Long, rich medium sweet (Distillery Tasting Notes)

Though I'm primarily a wine guy, I have had quite the single malt education over the past few years, courtesy of our terrific selection. My taste for single malts has really developed, and my personal collection is slowly growing. This one stands out and is certainly one of my favorites. It has the intensity of flavor and presence that only long, careful cask-aging lends a spirit. Toffee, candied orange, vanilla and spices are all there, as well as a gently floral finish and that impeccable Glenrothes balance. I don't use the word value and $100 together often when describing our products, but this is absolutely a value and one to contemplate on your own or in the company of a few close friends.

One of the things I enjoy so much about this malt is the buttery, "cream-cheese with fig jam on a lightly toasted bagel" nose. The creaminess is carried over on the palate. Think vanilla pudding with a touch of candied orange: warm and familiar like home, but wonderful all the same. Slight oakiness without the drying tannins.
