From one of the best vintages of the 1980s, this wine has held its freshness as its texture matured to silk. The scent of freshly dug earth and delicate cherry flavors are light yet sophisticated, the tannins still tight, as if ready to hold on forever. Faded red. Gorgeous , multidimensional aromas of dried red fruits, white flowers, spicecake, leather, underbrush, graphite and lavender sachet. Sil ky and seemingly weightless, with a haunting crystalline purity to the sweet strawberry and redcurrant flavors Sweetly insinuating on the finish, with lingering mineral and strawberry flavors. A remarkable wine that's completely out of step with today's styles : this is the stuff that gets die-hard Rioja traditionalists all weepy. (9/ 2006)
One of the great Bosconias and a personal favorite, the impressive 1981 has a fascinating complement of sweet red berry fruits, racy acids, chalky minerality, a silken weightlessness, and sufficient structure to ensure further ageing.
