Grapes from Monterey County constitute the backbone of this bright and lively Cabernet. But just when you fear this might be a simple quaffer, you get a sense of that 12 months aging in new and one-year-old American, French and Hungarian oak. And then there's the surprisingly rich, complex flavors of dark and red fruits and a long, long finish (surprising because this is quite a bit under $10, scary territory for most cheapy California cabs). A generous portion of syrah (7%), petit sirah (3%), petite verdot (2.5) and other red varieties (11%) were blended into the final wine, softening tannins and giving the finished blend a supple and round mouthfeel. This silky, seamless wine is priced to drink everyday, but darn if it isn't tasty enough for special occasions and special guests!
