Krug "Grand Cuvée" Brut Champagne (1.5L)

SKU #1004092 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The Grande Cuvee (disgorged 1998) is scented of croissant, buttered cinnamon toast and warm strawberries with a hint of smoky bacon. Muscular and still very taut in the mouth, the densely packed flavors are refreshed with a pure, crisp acid line. It finishes long with plenty of toast and nut layers. (5/ 2012)

95 points Wine Enthusiast

Resplendent in its new shiny gold label, Krug is a majestic Champagne. Its velvet texture, dominated by mature flavors, is toasty and rich, dense and complex. In the mouth, its beautiful roasted almond, spice and ripe pears all balance impressively. Could the wine be getting even better? No question-this is still one of the greatest nonvintage Champagnes. (12/ 2008)

95 points Wine Spectator

Very fine on the palate, with a lovely texture, carrying layered flavors of patisserie pear, dried apricot, smoked almond, crystallized honey and a hint of kumquat. Vibrant and mouthwatering, featuring a long finish of ground cumin and ginger. Drink now through 2022. (11/ 2012)

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

(14008508 on the front label and 5104827 on the back label): Light yellow-gold. Fresh orchard fruits, lemon and toasty lees on the fragrant nose. Tightly coiled but deep in pear, quince and candied lemon flavors, with smoke and anise notes building with air. Shows an intriguing blend of richness and vivacity, finishing with strong cut and impressive smoky persistence. This bottling isn't likely to quell the dismay of Krug fanatics who sense a change of style at the house favoring finesse over power, but there's absolutely nothing wimpy about this Champagne.
