The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot) is a narrowly constructed, firmer, less generous offering than previous vintages of the nineties. The attractive dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet aromas of cassis, smoked herbs, oak, and earth. Gritty tannin is noticeable in the finish. Drink this Cabernet during its first 10-12 years of life. (8/ 2002)
Full red-ruby, with a hint of amber. Riper on the nose than the Alexander, with currant, loam and mocha aromas complicated by herbs and nutty oak. Offers more texture and sweetness to buffer its acidity, with bitter cherry and currant flavors in the middle and on the aftertaste. Here the tannins are broader, but the lingering finish is still a bit dry and green. (5/ 2002)
Shows Silver Oak's signature cedar-dill oak profile. Dry, dusty sage, cedar, cigar box and currant flavors are lean yet appealing, with a minerally edge. Full-bodied yet simpler midpalate. (Web 2009)
