The blockbuster 2000 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard (produced from an old Wente Chardonnay clone) is an intensely steely offering with extraordinary texture, ripeness, and weight, with a liquid minerality, phenomenal precision, and a sensational finish that lasts nearly 40 seconds...remarkable for a dry white. It possesses a floral note intermixed with the minerality and citrus fruit aspect so prevalent in this vintage's finest wines. Enjoy it over the next decade. (8/ 2002)
Slightly paler color than the Hyde. More fruit-driven aromas of apricot, peach, grilled nuts and light sulfides. Hugely fruity to the point of painful; round, sweet flavors of dried and fresh orchard fruits and grapefruit. Very smooth in the middle, with just a tad less complexity of flavor than the Hyde. A bit chewier on the finish. (6/ 2003)
Scents of anise, fig and apricot lead to similar flavors on the palate, shaded by smoky oak and a hint of marshmallow on the finish. (6/ 2003)
