Devaux "Grand Réserve" Brut Champagne
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
(made from roughly two-thirds pinot noir and one-third chardonnay): Light yellow-gold. Orchard and pit fruits on the nose and palate, with floral and toasted grain notes adding complexity. Rich but lively, with very good finishing clarity and lasting toastiness.
Champagne Devaux was founded in 1846 and has been owned by the growers who supply it since 1986. The Grand Reserve is composed of 2/3 Pinot Noir and 1/3 Chardonnay aged for 3 years on the lees and blended with 20% reserve wines. It is dosed at less than 10 grams per liter of sugar. This is clean, expressive creamy Champagne that makes a nice aperitif. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)
