2005 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac $89.99
Now closed after a run of 15 or so years of wonderful wines, this HEAVILY discounted Napa Merlot is a crazy steal. As Robert Parker wrote: "Mike Havens, working out of a warehouse in the city of Napa, appears to have settled into an admirable pattern, producing richer and richer Merlots." The 2006 Merlot is delicous right now. A bit softer and rounder than the Cabernet that sold so well last month, it shows excellent balance and a lush, lingering finish. A great buy at this price! (Trey Beffa, K&L Wine Merchants) The 2006 Havens Merlot reminds me of a y... Read More »

93 points Wine Spectator and ranked #10 Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2009: "There's wonderful intensity of fruit in this wine, with crushed raspberry and blackberry and hints of coffee and fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, soft-textured finish that shows loads of fruit. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best after 2010." (10/09) " This is just another super wine from the bountiful 2007 vintage in Tuscany! Full of vibrant, bold fruit, layers of chocolaty richness, just the slightest hints of toasty vanilla and cof... 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Very ripe in cassis, with plenty of smoky oak influence and a spicy, dry finish. This is a bold, tannic young wine, tight and astringent in youth. It needs time in the cellar to soften and meld. Should be best between 2009 and 2011, and live far longer." (6/1/2009) 90 points and one star from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "Even accepting that wines from this location take their own sweet time to come around, and, despite the evident closed-in nature of this wine, it is still our sense that there is good , indeed... 91 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Monteviejo's entry level wine is Festivo, a 100% Malbec aged for 6 months in new French oak. The 2004 Festivo is dark crimson-colored with a fragrant nose of mineral, spice box, blueberry, and black cherry. Medium-bodied, it is plush on the palate with plenty of ripe, forward fruit, light tannin, and a sense of elegance. It can be enjoyed now and over the next 5 years. It is an outstanding value. Club Price: $9.99Looking for a consistently over-achieving, full-bodied red? We feel as though the Bodegas El Nido "Clio" Jumilla probably needs no introduction. How about this for a track record (all scores from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate): 2003 vintage - 96 points; 2004 - 97 points; 2005 - 95 points; 2006 - 95 points. 2007 was a very good vintage for Monastrell in Jumilla, rumored to be the region's best. So wait on this wine at your own peril; if past vintages are any indication this will sell out very quickly. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer) 93 points S... Read More »

In a plentiful vintage, some vineyards in Burgundy produce more wine than they can legally sell. When they do, they declassify the overage as Vin de Table. This white Burgundy from the Mâcon falls into that category. It is actually 2008 Mâcon Villages, but the crop was large and the market softer, thanks to the weak dollar. Remember, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck but sells for peanuts, who cares what they call it? (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer)

I rated it 90 points, non-blind, and drank another glass the next day for lunch with a slice of leftover lasgana. It held up nicely." (12/09) And, according to Stephen Tanzer: "Bright, dark ruby-red. Apparently, the adage "boys will be boys" applies to the Spanish equivalent of good 'ol boys, just as it does to their fun-loving American counterparts. Allow to me explain. Four city dwellers from Madrid enjoyed the occasional hunting trip out in the country. Over a few bottles of wine, they discussed the possibility of making their own, if for no other reason than the fact that they might be able to save on booze. They decided to form Bodegas Beronia, and from there, the men went on to make some really tasty wine. This is their 2006 Tempranillo. It's ... Read More »

This Cazar Pinot comes from the Russian River Valley and was aged for 10 months - half in new 60-gallon French oak barrels and half in smaller French barriques. This delightful Rosé sparkling wine comes from Burgundy. It is made of 80% Pinot Noir, and 20% Gamay Noir. The charming eye of the swan color comes from the addition of Pinot Noir to the wine when the lees are disgorged, following the traditional fermentation in the individual bottle, in the champagne method. On the palate it is very rich and fruity but just off-dry on the finish. The mousse is explosive, with a very creamy palate impression.
