Well, Rod Berglund has done it again. The 2008 Cuvee is the best Cuvee I have tried, even better than the 2007 which recieved 93 points from the Wine Spectator. The 2008 is a darker, heavier wine than the previous couple of vintages. A little more blue fruit blended in nicely with the cherry and raspberry fruits. Cola, spice, anise, rhubarb and earth lovingly balanced with a finish that lasts forever. The complexity and layers of flavor in this wine are incredible. This is a pinot that everyone will love. (Mike Jordan, K&L Wine Merchants) According to W... Read More »

90 points Wine Spectator: "Bright and jazzy, with pretty pineapple, grapefruit, elderflower and spice flavors that lingers on the finish without excess weight. This just floats on for a while. Drink now through 2012." (02/10) A rich, buttery style Chardonnay that finishes creamy and fresh! Chateau Ste. Michelle seems to have the formula down for making crowd-pleasing wines that continue to get excellent ratings. Best of all the prices are extremely fair! (Trey Beffa, K&L Wine Merchants)

94 points from the Wine Enthusiast: "Beautiful now, with decanting, due to the generous fruit flavors and the way the oak shows them off. Dry and smooth, it brims with blackberry, cherry, red and black currant, blueberry, cocoa, anise and sandalwood and smoky flavors that go on and on. Should age, too. Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Petit Verdot. Now-2014." (12/09) According to Wine Spectator: "Tight, structured and full-bodied, with firm, ripe dried currant, blackberry, mineral, anise and sage flavors that have a touch of black licorice bef... After giving the 2004 Amici Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon an additional year and half of bottle age, winemaker Jeff Hansen finally decided to release this exceptional wine in October, 2008. And, the additional time really helped, allowing this rich puppy to evolve and open up to show its true depth of character. Deeply colored, the nose is loaded with cassis, currants, blackberries and espresso notes, which is underscored by mild toasty tones. In the mouth, you will be treated to an expansive, hugely complex, multi-dimensional cabernet, with well-integ... Read More »

Club Price: HiddenSfuso means "bulk wine" in Italian, and this is just like the straightforward and simple wine you get in an Italian trattoria, or when you bring your bottles to the vino-olio store - just fresh Montepulciano, soft, easy and delicious. (Greg St. Clair, K&L Wine Merchants) The 2008 Contesa Vino Sfuso Rosso is everything that I want in an everyday red. This is made from 100% Montepulciano grown in the Marche. A vibrant nose with dark red and black fruits, the palate is dominated by lots of primary fruit tones and it has a modest finish with good acidity. ... Read More »

Great wines at very good prices. That is what you get from Foxglove. This is a side project from Bob and Jim Varner, who bring us the great wines from the Varner and Neely labels. The Foxglove Cabernet is amazingly well balanced. Beautiful black and blue fruits with nicely integrated tannins and just a hint of fig and earth. A lot of wine for $13.99. It's back! One of our most successful Cavas ever has finally made its return to K&L. Made with the traditional varietals of Xarel-lo, Parellada, Macabeo and a touch of Chardonnay, this partyfresh bubbly spends 12-15 months on its own yeast before disgorgement. Nicely delineated notes of fresh bread dough, apricot, Granny Smith apples and wet stone are ever-apparent here. And yes, the bubbles are tiny. Grab a case of this to hide around the house in the event of spontaneous partying." (Bryan Brick, K&L Wine Merchants) According to Robert Parker: "Gran Sar... Read More »

Angel Rodriguez Leal produces what is hands down the best wine in Rueda, Martinsancho. A family owned bodega since 1784, the family holds some of the best real estate in the D.O. Their land boasts verdejo vines which average 40 years of age and stand in a bed of rounded river stones. Wine is fermented in enamel tanks and aged in very large, neutral oak 'cubas.' The resulting wine is generous, with delicious peach, melon and guava notes, textural, as well as mineral, focused and age-worthy. In other words, drink it now but stash some away for a few ye... From the great 2007 Napa Valley Cabernet pool. "Mr. Robert Parker told me and several others in October of 2008 that the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignons from Napa Valley could be one of the greatest vintages ever! Here is our first entry." (Clyde Beffa, K&L Wine Merchants) Deep ruby in color, the nose explodes with cassis, currants and Rutherford dust which carries over into its hugely complex, broad, viscous, structured, focused mouth presentation. Château Reynon is located in Béguey, near Cadillac, on a south-facing slope of the right bank of the Garonne. Just before 1900 the estate was bought by Emile Pollet, a Parisian merchant, and then in 1958 by Jacques David who added it to his estate of Laroque. In 1976, his daughter Florence, and his son-in-law Denis Dubourdieu, take over its exploitation. The 20 hectares white vineyard is made up of 70% Sauvignon blanc and 30% Sémillon. 91 points Wine Spectator: "Shows sweet blueberry notes, with mineral and lilac. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and vanilla and bright fruit flavors. Clean and racy. Best after 2010." (10/09) The Castello di Nipozzano was built in 1000 in the heart of the Chianti Rufina zone as a fortress. Fortunately for us, its defensive intentions are no longer necessary, and today it is used as the cellar where the Nipozzano wines are made and aged. The 2007 Graffigna "Centenario" Reserve Malbec San Juan is one of my new favorite arrivals from Argentina. Mendoza is the most famous region in this country, but San Juan has an equally long history and can produce some delicious red wines. The basic Malbec Reserve has lush berry fruit typical of the grape’s style and has a great mouthfeel. It never sits heavy on the palate but it does let you know it’s there. The wines sees about 50% wood (American and French oak) but does not overwhelm with oaky flavors. This is classy and polished Malbec. (Keith ... Read More »

While the renowned 1996 vintage Brut from Fleury has taken much of the acclaim, the 1995 is not to be overlooked. Even at this point, the 1996 is still tight while the 1995 expands upon the palate with bright, tart cherry fruit with hints of mandarian oranges when it is first opened. In the background, stone fruits, apple butter and nutmeg spice. As an added bonus, Fleury Champagne is biodynamic and has a long history of "green" farming methods. Island or more correctly named Coastal whiskies all have a common trait. The maturation takes place by the sea. The old dunnage warehouses literally reek of the briny sea air. Scapa is unique for an island whisky as its malted barley is entirely unpeated. The water is the secret of Scapa. We know how carefully this was selected by the complexity and considerable cost the founders went to. Orkney has literally thousands of burns (streams). Having decided on creating a ‘coastal’ single malt the distillery location had to be by the sea and like many disti... Read More »

From the masters of Champagne without dosage - the Tarlant family - comes a rosé with no dosage! This wine is composed of 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir, making it the rosé with the highest proportion of white grapes in the entire store. This is the kind of Macallan that I always read about, but never actually got to taste. The legendary older batchs that supposedly went down as some of the finest whiskies ever made. This 1972 is wonderful, so much that we're going to carry it full time rather than on a special order basis. Although it's pricy, this malt is dark and rich and is one of the more complex Speysides I've ever had, justifying its cost in my mind. Like the Langoa, this comes from a cooler, challenging vintage and is produced by a somewhat under the radar producer (perhaps a little more under the radar in this case).
