The next in what has become a list of mind-boggling deals in the wine world, is the Trevor Jones Cabernet-Merlot. The wine sells elsewhere for $30 and that's not a bad deal, so $10 is off the charts. The wine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot and sees a mixture of new and seasoned French oak. The nose has elements of plum, cherry, cedar, tobacco, earth and sandlewood. On the palate, the wine shows the developed character of an older wine with soft tannins, but still good acidity, giving the wine a juicy mouthfeel. At 13% ABV this is not... Read More »

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Valletta is opaque purple-colored with a fragrant nose of toast, smoke, plum, and blueberry bordering on raisins. Thick and rich, this is a voluptuous, nearly over the top effort. Full-bodied, with well integrated tannins and a very long finish, this wine can be drunk now but it would be fascinating to see what becomes of it with 8-10 years in the cellar. At its asking price, it might be a prudent investment to lay away a few bottles. This is not a wine for delicate, European-trained palates. The proprie... Read More »

Drink now through 2015." 90 points James Halliday: "Lifted, vibrant red and black fruit aromas come through on the palate, and are joined by persistent tannins that just stay within the bounds of balance." (07/08) Wow, this is absolutely delicious Shiraz for a song. The nose is lifted with blueberry and blackberry fruit enhanced with notes of mineral and spice. On the palate, the... Read More »

90 points, a Best Value designation and one the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2009: "Ripe and open-textured, this is impressive for the way it packs in the cherry, blackberry and raspberry flavors and doesn't take the foot off the gas pedal until the mineral-inflected finish has played through. Drink now through 2018. 5,000 cases imported." (09/09)

93 points from The Wine Enthusiast and number #13 in their Top 100: "There’s no doubt this is done in what some critics might call a fruit-bomb style. But boy is it gorgeously made. The creamy-smooth mouthfeel and lush layers of flavors effortlessly carry palate-saturating notes of licorice and plum. Long on the finish, with a surprising degree of elegance. A blend of various growers’ fruit vinified by winemaker Troy Kalleske. Drink now thru 2015." An untamed animal with minimal intervention (that means no filtering, no fining, and pretty much no hand of the wine maker in evidence whatsoever), this is a naturalist's dream: 100% juicy, soft and drinkable Shiraz in a fruit-forward, jammy and yet balanced style. A fantastic value and a lot of bang for around ten bucks. "Since I became aware of this property last year, I have been extremely impressed with the quality and value they have to offer. Ripe, sweet, and layered, this nicely rendered red has exceptional balance and length for its humble price." (02/09)

Bitch, a provocatively named 100% Grenache from R Wines, achieves the potential of this difficult-to-grow grape. Winemakers Chris Ringland and Lisa Wetherell use fruit from the Barossa Valley in South Australia. Yields from the 25-year-old vines grown in sand over clay are modest, 3 to 5 tons an acre. Fleshy and round, with tons of jammy strawberry and raspberry fruit, this is neither shy nor light in the alcohol department, but it's so darn hard to bitch about the heat, when there is so much lip-smackingly good fruit!

The finish is supple, sweet and deep, with mineral tones adding even more verve to this graceful beauty."
