This has lovely fruit, and lots of charm. This is one of the real values in Burgundy today. This appellation is common to a number of villages, all situated in the Côte de Nuits region : Brochon, Fixin, Premeaux-Prissey, Corgoloin, Comblanchien. It is an interesting wine combining the different characteristics of the various "terroirs" : fairly soft and rich wines in the South to more tannic wines with a strong structure in the North. Pinot Noir is the only grape variety used for this appellation.

70% Syrah and 30% Grenache go into this medium bodied salmon pink number, whose color does little to prepare the taster for such a seriously juicy palate impression. Rich and concentrated, this is also impressively nuanced, and bright acidity makes it an ideal partner to all kinds of foods, fresh fish and white meat, to spicy cuisine.

The Beaujolais Villages Nouveau is always produced in much smaller quantities than the plain Beaujolais Nouveau, and our staff finds it much the better wine. This is the gold standard in Nouveau, and always popular.

Bright and spicy, this is a delightful quaff. Try it on a sunny afternoon, with grilled vegetables or slightly chilled with halibut. You'll see why we are excited about this find! When I tasted it in France in June, I thought it must be a Beaujolais, by its character. But when it arrived, I found that those vines seemed to have wandered a bit, and put down roots in the Vaucluse! Of the 2004s I have tried recently this was nothing short of truly impressive and lovely. Quite frankly, it's delicious and a terrific value. And at 30% off the original price, it won't be around for long. The focused black fruit notes are followed by a long and spicy finish. It is just starting to develop elegant secondary aromas, with some notes of sous bois. No trace of the dreaded "Green Meanies" in this wine! Since the late 90s one of the best "Value" areas in Bordeaux is the Cotes de Castillon, just east of St Emilion. The have been many property owners from the prestigious regions of St Emilion, pomerol, etc moving into this area. One of our biggest 2005 Bordeaux sellers is d'Aiguilhe from Stephan von Neipperg of Canon La Gaffeliere fame.
