Domestic Wine
When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural regions within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows and glasses to be raised around the world. We've been selling domestic wines since 1976 and all three of our stores are located in California, so it's safe to say that this territory has a special place in our heart. Take a look...

92 points and a "Best Buy" designation from Wine & Spirits Magazine: "Hogue's syrahs from its Genesis series are generally open, generous expressions of the grape, a lot of fruit for the money. In 2006, Hogue's red winemaker, Jordan Ferrier, captured the freshness of a great vintage, from sources in the Horse Heaven Hills and Wahluke Slope. It's as rich as chocolate cake, but its texture remains remarkably lifted and succulent. Ideal for barbecue." Honig's Sauvignon Blanc is bright and fresh with grapefruit, lemongrass and lime aromas that carry over to the palate. In the mouth, the wine tends toward the tropical. The fruit comes from Honig's sustainably managed vineyards, and it is finished in a combination of large, neutral oak casks and stainless tanks. 89 points Robert Parker: "Consistently one of the finest Sauvignons made in California, Honig’s 2008 (30,000 cases produced) is a blend of 99% Sauvignon Blanc and 1% Semillon from prime Napa Valley real estate. Spicy, expressive, and medium-bodied on the palate, it displays a racy personality marked by savory flavor, vibrant acidity, good depth, and enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years. Drink this tasty effort through 2017." (10/09) The unreserved nose bursts with red raspberry, ripe cherry, lavender, plum, tobacco, slight orange peel and cola. 95 points, three stars and a "Top 10 Wines of 2008" designation from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California wine: "Some years back Ridge removed the varietal identifier from its Geyserville red wine made substantially from Zinfandel but a field-blend in reality. But whatever they call it, it has been and continues to be a terrific Zinfandel by any standard. Its deep but still developing aromas of berries, brownies and sweet oak give way to more open and accessible ripe-berry flavors, and, contrary to the latter-day norm, the wine is free of excessive ripe... 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lots of new, smoky oak stands out on this polished Cab. Give it a little time in a decanter before you drink, as it pulls together, becoming more powerful and accenting the blackberry and cherry flavors. Should develop for a decade." (05/09) Rubicon's "Cask" Cabernet Sauvignon is a tribute to the wines of John Daniel's Inglenook.
