Ruinart is one of Champagne's oldest houses, founded by Nicholas Ruinart in 1729, himself a descendent of Dom Thierry Ruinart, the other "Dom" responsible for so much of the early viticulture progress of the appellation. Only Gosset is older, but apparently it was Ruinart that was first to base his business on sparkling, rather than still Champagne. This single vineyard, single varietal Champagne is among the very best that we carry at K&L. Although not labeled as a vintage, it is made entirely from the 2003 vintage and comes entirely from massal selected (not cloned plants) Meunier. The vineyard "La Plante Bleue" is located in Olizy and was planted in 1969. This is Champagne is composed of 39% Chardonnay, 41% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier sourced from a combination of the largest estate in Champagne and purchased fruit.This is the 36th Moet Rose Vintage- the first was the 1920. Copper pink in color, this Rose has a fresh dough and a restrained strawberry note on the nose. The wine is subtle and intriguing to smell, but powerful in the mouth, with tons of rose flavor.
