2005 Giscours, Margaux $54.99
96+ points Robert Parker: "The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe may be the greatest wine made at this property since the 2005 and 1998. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with an exquisite nose of salty sea breezes, licorice, ground pepper, jammy black cherries, black currants, figs, and plums, this is a full-bodied, rich, Provencal-styled offering with lots of sweet, ripe tannin. It is surprisingly accessible for a Vieux Telegraphe (this wine normally shuts down several years after bottling), but it should have great longevity (25+ years) given its power, full-bodied mouthf... 94-96 points Robert Parker: "A 100% Grenache cuvée from the sandy soils of a 106-year-old, biodynamically farmed La Crau vineyard, and aged in both foudre and tank, the 2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Speciale is amazing. Abundant notes of melted licorice, kirsch liqueur, and flowers is followed by a full-bodied, seamlessly constructed wine with sensational purity, texture, depth, and length. The bad news is there are only 2,000 bottles. This 2007 should drink well for two decades or more."(10/2008) 95 points Wine Spectator: "This is gorgeous, with wood s... Read More »

95 points Robert Parker: "The brilliant 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige (60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, and the balance almost every other authorized red grape of the appellation) is produced from parcels that average 90 years of age or older. It reveals the essence of Provence in its dense plum/purple color and powerful aromatics of sweet creme de cassis, black cherries, licorice, lavender, pepper, and incense. The wine possesses terrific depth, a blockbuster, opulent, multilayered texture, and a finish that lasts nearly 50 seconds. Thi... Read More »

96 points Robert Parker: "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines (50% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, and 20% Syrah aged in small new oak barrels) is somewhat of an anomaly with such an amount of new oak, but it never seems to show given the wine-s concentration and richness. This may be the estate-s finest example of this cuvee, which generally represents 1,200-1,500 cases, all from their holdings in the northern sector of the appellation. A saturated purple color is accompanied by aromas of smoke, camphor, creme de cassis, licorice, and blueberries, amazin... Read More »

98 points Wine Spectator: "Very lush and racy at the same time, this starts with creamy layers of mango and papaya before giving way to persimmon, fig paste and crème brûlée notes, all carried by well-embedded acidity. The superlong finish lets date, spice cake and green tea notes linger endlessly. Yet another classic for this amazing wine. Drink now through 2032." 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "his chateau gets better and better. The wine has power, but it is harnessed by the intense fruits, the blackberry flavors, the density and the wood. With the power, though, comes elegance, resulting in a wine that is ready to develop over many years." (06/08) 93 points Wine Spectator and listed in the Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2008! From the Spectator: "Displays blackberry, cherry and hints of sweet tobacco. Full-bodied, with soft, velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. Very pretty and solid. This is structured and c... 95 points Robert Parker: "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee La Cote Ronde (a blend of equal parts Grenache and Syrah from 60-year-old vines, with the Syrah enjoying malolactic fermentation in barrel and aging in new oak) possesses smoky, roasted herb, seaweed wrapper, licorice, cassis, and black cherry characteristics. The oak component is beautifully integrated, and the wine has superb concentration, a full-bodied style, and a true Chateauneuf du Pape personality in spite of the new oak. It should drink well for 15+ years." (10/09)

This is Tarlant's top-of-the-line wine, and one of the best Champagnes we carry regardless of price. It is made of half Chardonnay and half Pinot Noir from the chalkiest portion of the Tarlant family's hillside vineyards in Oeuilly (Vallée de la Marne). The Tarlant family uses organic practices in the vineyard- but they are very coy about calling themselves organic, no doubt due to the family's prominence in the vignerons association in Champagne. The plot that the grapes come from is called "les Crayons" and the vines are all over 45 years of age, but... Read More »

The wine reveals the vintage’s gorgeous freshness and vibrancy as well as sensational concentration, and a tremendous finish. It can be drunk young or cellared for 15+ years. 94 points Robert Parker: "The blockbuster 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Sixtine (55% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre from 50- to 105-year-old vines) boasts an inky/purple color as well as a sensational perfume of camphor, graphite, black currants, black cherries, licorice, and smoke. Built like a young Bordeaux with its tannic structure, this full-bodied, intensely flavored wine reveals a meaty character in the mouth. As with most vintages since 1998, the 2007 requires cellaring. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by notes of charcoal, graphite, black currants, sweet cherries, spice box, and subtle earth. This fantastic Champagne comes from the villages of Pierry and Moussy in the sud-Epernay sub region of Champagne. Bruno Michel has been organic since 1999 and 5 of his 37.5 acres are farmed biodynamically. This vintage Brut is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier, and it offers stupendous balance between simple enjoyment/drinkability and more intellectual geeked out notes of wet stone and austere minerality.

(11/04) K&L's notes - A Pinot Noir dominated blend that always includes a generous proportion of reserve wines. Sweet Spot Outstanding! and 93 points from Allen Meadows: "A discreet note of pain grillé frames a notably ripe but still exuberantly fresh nose of concentrated yet airy fruit that also runs just up the edge of being exotic without crossing over introduces superbly intense and gorgeously mineral flavors that possess a beguiling texture. This fantastic wine comes from a small, sandy plot on the Tarlants estate in the village of Oeuilly. The vineyard was planted in 1962 without the use of an American rootstock; in the 1950's the area was covered in trees with wild, pre-phyloxera vines growing up them! These vines, now planted in rows, but still only on their own French roots, give us a glimpse of what Champagne was like before the phyloxera louse wrecked havoc on the region. Benoit Ente's parcel in Champ Gains is next to Truffieres in Argillo-Calcaire soil, in contrast to the stonier soil further up the hill. It has a beautiful nose, with notes of white flowers. Champagne always tastes better out of magnum! This is another terrific bargain, direct from France. All of the fruit comes from the Bonville's own vineyards in the marvelous Grand Cru of Avize.
