Champagne always tastes best out of Magnum! This is Tarlant's top of the line wine, and one of the best Champagnes we carry regardless of price. It is made of half Chardonnay and half Pinot Noir from the chalkiest portion of the Tarlant families hillside vineyards in Oeuilly (Vallée de la Marne). The Tarlant family uses organic practices in the vineyard- but they are very coy about calling themselves organic, no doubt due to the family's prominence in the vignerons association in Champagne. The plot that the grapes come from is called 'les Crayons' and ... Read More »

This Champagne started in 1875, thanks to Emile Marguet, who since 1883 has tended his best vineyards of the Cote des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, in preparation for the arrival of phylloxera. Today, this domaine's top bubbly is the Cuvee Maxime, made only in years that merit it!

Champagne always tastes better out of magnum! This is another terrific bargain, direct from France. All of the fruit comes from the Bonville's own vineyards in the marvelous Grand Cru of Avize. It is all Chardonnay blended from three very good years: '00, '01 and '02. This Champagne has exotic, ripe fruit aromatics and as the glass warms up there are also traces of clean clay and earth, just like in a great Chablis! On the palate the Champagne has great fruit and a wonderful full texture. (Gary Westby, K&L Chamgpane buyer)

Mr. Brulez sells two-thirds of his grapes, and keeps the best third to make only vintage Champagne. He is the chairman of the Dijon University Alumni Association, and looks more to Burgundy than to Reims for the inspiration for his wines. There is not much more festive than a magnum of Vintage Champagne. The fact that this is meticulously crafted, and heavily discounted, makes it a particularly fun addition on your holiday gatherings!

A great price for a Magnum of one of the best Champagnes in the world! Wine is due in middle of October. 995 points Wine Spectator: "A powerful, well-toned Champagne, featuring coconut, toast, grapefruit and coffee aromas and flavors. There are plenty of bass notes, punctuated by crisp acidity, and it all comes together on the fine texture with an aftertaste of roasted hazelnut and coffee. Drink now through 2014." (11/09) 92 points and 2 stars from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "Is it too old or just right? Very few sparkling wines of an... Read More »

Bonville is sold out of this vintage in 750's, so I guess we will have to drink it from magnum! The 2002 vintage is fantastic for the Cotes de Blancs wines, with much in common with the great 1990 harvest. The Bonville family owns 50 acres of Grand Cru vineyards and uses exclusively estate fruit in this wine. This Champagne is a great example of how much more wine you get for less money compared to a big name non-vintage Champagne when the export brokers, import companies and distributors are taken out of the deal. This is 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay from ... Read More »

The famous yellow label. According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Brut offers up attractive notes of smoke, tar, rich ripe pears and flowers in a medium to full-bodied style. There is a good measure of persistence..." (12/08)

We were able to get a tiny allocation of magnums of this ultra-rare cuvée! The rest of the tiny production of this wine goes to Les Crayreres, the best restaurant in Reims, which many foodies say is the best restaurant in the world. It is also sold to Guy Savoy in Paris, a Michelin three-star in contention for the same honor. I have been lucky enough to have this wine twice in Champagne and it is second to none. I feel that it is in the very highest bracket of Champagne and should be treated like a $300 bottle (choose your occasion wisely!) even though i... Read More »

One of the last available of this great vintagemaybe the greatest in a generation from one of K&L's favorite Champagne producers. An recently disgorged (RD) release; it is STUNNING. The 1996 vintage blends 80% pinot noir and 20% chardonnay fermented in stainless steel and measures a very high 6% total acidity, even after full malolactic fermentation. The sur-lie aging takes place on a cork rather than a steel cap, and all the bottles are hand-disgorged. The color is like dark hay and the nose reminds me of the fresh brioche that I have been treated... Read More »

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a classic Dom Pérignon vintage. It's big and fruity initially, a mouthful of ripeness. Then the texture and structure of this dense wine come through. It’s as much wine as Champagne, rich, the apple and fresh pear flavors vying with yeasty and a tense crispness. Worth aging, it will be even better in 3-4 years." (12/08) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Brut Dom Perignon is a gorgeous, seductive wine that floats on the palate with remarkable grace. Toasty aromas meld into freshly cut flowers, apricots... Read More »

Champagne always tastes better out of magnum. This is pure vintage 1998, but it is not labeled as such. Paul Vincent Ariston says that his 25 year-old vines reflect the vintage, but the Prestige, made from vines averaging 60 years, reflect his terroir. He feels that putting a vintage date on this wine would be an insult to his best vineyard plots. It is composed of 50% chardonnay, 25% pinot noir and 25% meunier. This was one of the best bottles from my 2005 trip, and we drank two just to make sure! It has fantastic Brouillet black cherry power, and finis... Read More »

Do you like dry Champagne? A real brut style? Well, this is it-a no-dosage-added beauty from Tarlant! It is a vibrant, even electric style of Champagne, with no sweetness whatsoever to cloud the purity of its flavor. Unlike some other "ultra brut" Champagnes, this wine has great texture and richness, mostly from a generous use of reserve wines and barrel aging. This is a great introduction to this style of wine! Tarlant is one of a handful of cult producers in Champagne, but unlike most other trendy estates, they have been around for awhile -since 1687! ... Read More »

90 points Wine Spectator: "A smoky version, exhibiting light berry and watermelon notes. Quite firm, as much from the chalky sensation as from the lively acidity. Despite its lightness, this shows intensity and length. Drink now through 2011." (11/09) The just released rosé from Clicquot. Made using grapes from 50 to 60 different villages, the structure is based on Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label's traditional blend, which is 50 to 55% pinot noir, 15% to 20% pinot meunier and 28% to 33% chardonnay. The blend includes a high percentage of "reserve wines... Read More »

Don't let the low price fool you, we have eliminated all the courtiers, export brokers, import companies and distributors mark ups to bring this to you at direct pricing! This wine comes to us directly from a very small quality conscious negociant in Ay, in the very center of Champagne. The wine is made out of 80% pinot noir from Ay, Mareui-Sur-Ay and Mutigny, 15% chardonnay from Cramant, Avize and Oger and 5% meunier from Cumieres. It is vinified half in old oak barrels and half in stainless steel tanks for the perfect balance of rounded richness and ze... Read More »

This is the highly sought after ultra-luxury cuvee made by Cattier. It is packaged in a gold bottle with a pewter card-spade with an A on it instead of a label, giving rise to the nick-name "ace of spades". It is a favorite of many musicians and has been popping up in celebrity circles and even in videos. Take your cue from Jay-Z and pop open a bottle of this bubbly, made exclusively from mountain de Reims fruit. It is a blend of 33% Pinot Noir, 33% Meunier and 33% Chardonnay. Like almost all Champagne, this wine has relativly low alcohol, 12.5%. (Gary ... Read More »
