This is another terrific bargain, purchased directly from France. All of the fruit comes from the Bonville's own estate vineyards in the marvelous Grand Cru of Avize. It is all Chardonnay blended from three very good years: '00, '01 and '02. This house is located in Aisne department, a part of Champagne that rarely exports its wines to the USA. While they are a negociant, the 1996 is made up mostly of their quite extensive 225 acre estate. It is composed of 45% Chardonnay, 40% Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir which is fermented in stainless steel and goes through full malolactic fermentation. Gosset is small for a grand marque. At 50,000 cases a year total production they make about as much Champagne as Krug. They are located in Ay, the heart of Champagne, along with Bollinger, Deutz and De Meric, and they have been making wine there since 1584, the oldest currently operating wine producer in Champagne. Exclusively from the 2000 harvest, although not labeled as such, this Champagne is composed of two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay. The color is gorgeous gold, studded with tiny bubbles. Back in stock with a great new label! This fantastic Champagne is made out of entirely grand cru fruit, 65% pinot noir and 35% chardonnay from the cru's Ambonnay, Bouzy and Mailly. The wine is 60% from the 2005 harvest, with the other 40% coming from reserves of 2004 and 2003. The steeper slopes, less chalk and more fossils in the soil of Brouillet make for a rich, creamy style Chardonnay Champagne that will appeal to just about anyone. This might be considered Marguet's top wine, and the secret behind it sounds simple. Unlike most rose Champagnes this is neither a saignee method whereby dark grapes are kept on the skins for a short time, after which the juice is bled off, not by the addition of still red wine, but by a combination of the two! In this case, the red comes from Ambonnay and Bouzy. The result is richer, more aromatic and just plain more wonderful rosé Champagne. A very celebratory wine from the color down to the finish, and it just happens to be delicious with turkey!

Many generations of the Lallement family have devoted themselves to the growing and making of fine Champagne, specifically on the côteaux of Chaméry, the one of the better slopes of Champagne. Ideally situated between Peims and Epernay, the family vineyard consists of 7 hectares on the mountain of Reims. Baron Fuente is a negociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied", meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction since many negociants buy "sur lattes" - meaning in bottle! The vineyard faces south on a small slope about a mile west of the village. The Champagne has a fresh, clean vanilla bean and subtle raspberry fruit nose. A blend of 33% pinot noir, 33% meunier and 33% chardonnay from vines averaging about 25 years on the families estate vineyards in Brouillet. This Champagne has a very pretty golden straw color. The nose is very leesy and doughy, showing off the six years it has aged on its yeast. It is round and carmely, with an excellent black cherry core.

This super well balanced bottle of Champagne gets an astoundingly luxurious 7 years of ageing on the lees. It is very rare to find something so reasonably priced that is kept for so long. Composed of even parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier it is fermented in stainless steel. It is named after their daughter, Camille, and is 100% grand cru Chardonnay from vineyards in Avize and Cramant. Champagne Fleury has been around since 1895, releasing their first bubbly in 1929. The vineyards themselves are located on steep slopes that have a calcareous clay soil and see ample amounts of sun, so the grapes have an outstanding ripeness.
