According to Robert Parker: "Soft, cedar, black cherry and currant fruit intermixed with hints of tobacco leaf and spice emerge from this round, generously endowed, soft Haut-Medoc. A blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, it can be drunk now or kept for 5-6 years." (08/08) And, from the Wine Spectator: "Shows ripe raspberry and plum aromas, with hints of tea and light toasty oak. Medium-bodied, with very clean fruit and a soft, silky finish. It's not easy to find steals in the much touted 2005 vintage of Bordeaux. But you need look no further than Graves for a screamingly good example of ready-to-drink value-packed Merlot-based red. Tobacco, oak notes and black currant aromas and flavors have fine Bordeaux written all of them. This tastes like a $30 bottle of wine, which comes in handy at dinner parties!

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "91-93 Barrel sample. If you're looking for great, ripe black currant fruits, this is where to come. The wine is full and hugely fruity, but it still manages a good Bordeaux sense of proportion." (6/1/2006)

Ch. L’Avocat is from the small commune of Cerons, which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley in Napa earlier. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in April to be tasted and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost 8 weeks later and was shown the gravely, plateau vineyards by her husband Sean who manages the vines. The vineyards were purchased by the Allison’s in 2002; the fruit was p... Read More »

The taster is seduced by the wine's silky, seamless texture, gorgeous aromatics, low acidity, and lovely levels of fruit." (04/00) And, from Wine Spectator: "Very good for the vintage. This is new-world Bordeaux with enough forward fruit and body to please a California-cab palate. Owned by Mr Uijttewaal since 1982, this property has seen tremendous improvements over the past ten years. Only 8000 cases a year from this small estate located 80 km north of the city of Bordeaux in a village called Jau Dignac et Loirac in the north medoc.Deep gravely soil along with a clayey-chalky subsoil provides this value-priced Bordeaux red with plenty of stuffing, especially in the ripe, precocious vintage of 2005. Everything is beautifully pure as well as perfectly balanced in this outstanding effort. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025. Excellent value.." At K&L we love Sansonnet, as it remains one of the finest value chateaux of Bordeaux, especially in superb vintages like 2005. Located at the east end of St-Emilion, on the highest point of the plateau, Sansonnet is neighbor to a few of the great classified growth Bordeaux properties. The d'Aulan acquired the chateau in 1999, and in renovating it, they have pouring many Euros into the winery and vineyards. The estate has 25 hectares of vines. Eighteen hectares are red varietals, cabernet sauvignon and merlot, and seven hectares are white. The 2005 Château Laubarit Bordeaux is even better than the very successful 2003 vintage that we featured in the club last year. It is rich and ripe like the 2003, but it has more depth of flavor, better balance and a longer finish. Fabulous vintage, great tasting and very affordable red.
