At K&L we love Sansonnet, as it remains one of the finest value chateaux of Bordeaux, especially in superb vintages like 2005. Located at the east end of St-Emilion, on the highest point of the plateau, Sansonnet is neighbor to a few of the great classified growth Bordeaux properties. The d'Aulan acquired the chateau in 1999, and in renovating it, they have pouring many Euros into the winery and vineyards. The exceptional terroir is composed of an argilo-limestone soil, on a rocky subsoil, ideal for quality merlot and cabernet. Forgotten in the past, Sa... Read More »

I voted this wine as one of the top 100 Bordeaux values at a tasting in new York in 2008. Plenty of vibrance and richness and structure for the cellar. Blackberries abound here.

Château Sansonnet may very well be the best Bordeaux producer you've never heard of! Located at the east of Saint-Emilion, on the highest point of the plateau, it neighbors a bunch of great classified growth Bordeaux properties. The d'Aulan family took it over in 1999, and they have renovated this property, pouring many Euros into the winery and vineyards. And what does this have to do with Clos Kalinda? We are very excited about this first Bordeaux wine under the Kalinda label; we waited 30 years after all! We tasted and blended a wine we thought would... Read More »

Club Price: $21.9990-93 points Robert Parker: "A garagiste offering that is impeccably well-made by consultant guru Stephane Derenoncourt, there are fewer than 1,000 cases of the 2006 Lucia, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. One-third of the vines in this tiny vineyard were planted in 1901. The deep purple-hued 2006 exhibits sweet, smoky, black currant, camphor, and graphite aromas. The explosive aromatics are matched by the dense, concentrated, opulent flavors that stain the palate. With no hardness or angularity, this beauty can be enjoyed during its first 1... Read More »

According to Robert Parker: "this 2006 reveals notions of crushed rocks, and sweet kirsch and raspberry notes in a medium to full-bodied, elegant style. Its elevated tannins suggest that this wine may not turn out as well as I had hoped. Good purity and potential complexity are there, but the tannins are worrisome. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020?" (02/09) K&L's notes on 01/23/09: exotic Asian spices, very perfumey wine. Clyde loves this!

According to Robert Parker: "...It exhibits an attractive purity to its sweet red cherry and strawberry fruit, medium body, and a distinct underlying earthiness. Drink this spicy 2006 over the next 5-7 years." (02/09) According to Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 07: "Red-ruby. Redcurrant, cherry, leather and minerals on the aromatic nose. A supple, sweet midweight with moderate intensity and depth and nicely integrated acidity. Not as rich as the 2005 but conveys an impression of chocolatey ripeness and seamless texture. Thick, fresh, youthful and sweet; a real fruit bomb on the nose and palate. Finishes very long, with big, ripe tannins. This really transcends the vintage." (May/June 01) 90 points Robert Parker: "The dense plum/purple-colored 1999 offers up aromas of truffles, underbrush, espresso, black cherries, and roasted meats. The tiny estate (2.5 hectares or about 6 acres) is located at Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens, 4 kilometers from the village of Saint Emilion. The fruit comes from old vines (around 35 years old) that are grown in an exceptionally favorable site with clay and gravelly, sandy soils. The vineyard is planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, fairly typical for the appellation. The wine underwent a traditional fermentation in thermoregulated vats and was aged in 100% new French oak barrels for eight months. The result is a wine of beautiful color with a nose ... Read More »

With superb concentration, a hint of minerals, and a lovely textured mouthfeel, it should be approachable in 5-6 years, and age easily for two decades or more." (04/08) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful chocolate and blackberry aromas and flavors follow through to a full body, with soft, round tannins and a long, long finish. Best after 2011." According to Robert Parker: "The tell-tale dark ruby color, pronounced minerality, and pure black raspberry fruit are the hallmarks of most Grand-Mayne vintages. The vineyards at this historic estate encompass 12 hectares (32 acres) of ideally situated land in the commune of St-Emilion on the border of Pomerol. The estate's lands are made up of two soil types: ancient sandy soils on an iron-rich clay subsoil, which gives this wine its subtlety, and clay soils, which give the wine its power. The duality of the terroir enables Corbin to produce a wine of great complexity and length. According to Wine Spectator: "Shows dried rose petal and berry aromas.
