2008 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2008 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (Pre-Arrival)

96-98+ points Robert Parker: "A wine for our children's children. Nobody in Bordeaux is more attentive to detail than Alfred Tesseron is at Pontet-Canet....the 2008 will not be close to drinkability for at least a decade, and it should still be in superb form circa 2060. An absolutely amazing effort, it boasts an inky/black/purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of creme de cassis, graphite, charcoal, and incense, blockbuster depth, and full-bodied power. The tannins are high, but they are remarkably velvety as well as well-integrated. Sensatio... Read More »

2005 Pedesclaux, Pauillac (was $49.99) Top Pick!
2005 Pedesclaux, Pauillac (was $49.99)

This Fifth Growth estate is on its way up! Long considered an under-achiever, the estate has really started to turn around since Brigitte and Denis Jugla took command in 1996--focusing their energy on quality. The 2005 vintage is a beacon of the estate's potential. It may be THE great value of the vintage. It was rated 18/20 points by Decanter Magazine and given five stars, the highest rating of all the vintage's Pauillacs (and scored on par with Mouton-Rothschild): "Very pure cassis. Hidden depths - unevolved but self-assured. Terrific intensity of fla... Read More »

2005 d'Armailhac, Pauillac (was $79.99) Top Pick!
2005 d'Armailhac, Pauillac (was $79.99)

90 points Robert Parker: "This powerful, tannic, structured effort from Mouton-Rothschild’s stable is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by an earthy nose dominated by black currants and toasty, smoky oak. Medium to full-bodied with relatively high tannin, decent acidity, and a fine finish, it should be at its best between 2014-2030." (04/08) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Exhibits blackberry, currant and licorice on the nose. Full and velvety, with plenty of g... Read More »

2001 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
2001 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac

93 points Robert Parker: "A distinctive bouquet of violets, soy, pepper, blackberries, cassis, and tree bark gives this 2001 a singular style. This dense ruby/purple-colored blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and a whopping 14% Petit Verdot exhibits plenty of structure, wonderful sweetness, a closed style, but a rich, textured, persistent character. The unusually large percentage of Petit Verdot gives the wine more structure and less initial charm. This beauty needs some time in the cellar. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018." 93 points Wine Spectator: "Very aromatic, showing blackberry and currant aromas, with some licorice. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a rich, decadent, fruity finish. Caresses the palate. Stylish and opulent. Best after 2011." (03/08) 90 points Robert Parker: "This deep ruby/purple-colored 2005 is a classic Pauillac. A big, sweet kiss of road tar aromas interwoven with cedarwood, smoke, spice box, herbs, and black currants emerges from the glass of this unexpectedly precocious, up-front Pauillac. 1995 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
1995 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac

96 points and a Cellar Selection designation from the Wine Spectator: "A megawine, with layers of fruit and various levels of character. This exceptional Bordeaux is full-bodied and very tannic, with masses of rich fruit, berry and tobacco. Very velvety. This powerhouse needs time. Best after 2003." (01/98) 96 points Robert Parker: "What sumptuous pleasures await those who purchase either the 1996 or 1995 Pichon Lalande. It is hard to choose a favorite, although the 1995 is a smoother, more immediately sexy and accessible wine. It is an exquisite exam... Read More »

1991 Pichon Lalande, Pauillac
1991 Pichon Lalande, Pauillac

A tremendous bargain. According to Robert Parker: "Pichon-Lalande's 1991 is among only a handful of 1991s worthy of being the 'wine of the vintage.' Only 30% of the harvest went into the final wine, resulting in a deeper-colored, richer, more concentrated, and complex wine than the 1990, which was atypically light - even for the elegant Pichon-Lalande style. The 1991, which possesses plenty of tannin, displays an opaque, deep ruby/purple color, and a sweet nose of chocolate, cedar, and ripe, plummy, blackcurrant fruit. This blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot no Petit Verdot was included in the final blend exhibits a dense purple color as well as abundant aromas of chocolate, coffee, cedar, black currants, and a subtle touch of smoke, a rich, savory, full-bodied mouthfeel, plump, fleshy fruit, and a superb finish. 2000 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
2000 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

96 points Wine Spectator: "If you love Lynch, buy this. Gorgeous aromas of plums, blackberries and licorice, with hints of mineral. Full-bodied, with full and silky tannins and a long, long finish. Big and solid. Fantastic. Best after 2010." (01/03) 95 points Robert Parker: "An utterly profound Lynch-Bages, this wine continues to remind me of a hypothetical blend of the 1990 and 1989. Interestingly, when I asked Jean-Michel Cazes to rank his top four vintages of Lynch-Bages, he ranked the 1989 first, followed by three vintages that he said were essenti... Read More »

Firm and focused, with a pleasant minty edge to the solid currant and cedar aromas and flavors, hinting at tobacco and toast on the long finish. Thick in texture without being heavy..." (04/91) 90 points Robert Parker: "One of the stars of the vintage, the 1988 has evolved beautifully. The second wine of Pichon-Longueville-Lalande. Best after 2012." (Web 08) K&L's notes - It's hard to believe that this is a second wine; it's so elegant and refined. 1996 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac Top Pick!
1996 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac

95 points Robert Parker: "The 1996 displays an opaque purple color, as well as sweet, wonderfully pure, jammy blackberry, mineral, and intriguing floral aromas. Enormously rich and full-bodied, with massive intensity, this is a modern day tour de force in winemaking. In spite of being aged in a hefty percentage of new oak, the wine does not reveal any evidence of new oak casks because the fruit character is so pronounced. Statistically, this wine possesses huge amounts of tannin, but it comes across as a seamless giant with extraordinary richness and int... Read More »

91-93 points Robert Parker: "The second wine seems to have picked up most of the Merlot from the Latour vineyards (31.5% Merlot and 66.5% Cabernet Sauvignon dominate the blend). The 2008 Les Forts de Latour is a forward, pure wine displaying remarkably sweet tannins along with aromas of black currants, forest floor, and a hint of underbrush. Opulent, round, and generous, it should drink well for 15-20 years, possibly longer given the fact that the 1982 Les Forts de Latour is still a beautiful wine, and it's 'only' 27 years of age!" It is followed by thick, rich, moderately tannic flavors that exhibit medium to full body, good structure, outstanding purity, and a classically layered, long, pure finish. 91 points from Robert Parker: "Pichon-Baron continues to build on the success it established in the late eighties with its three consecutive top-notch vintages of 1988, 1989, and 1990. The initial impression of the 1995 is one of extraordinarily pure cassis fruit. I had this wine on three occasions, and while it does not measure up to the 1989 or 1990, it possesses an expansive mid-section, superb ripeness, medium body, and high tannin in the impressively long finish. It brings structure and ripeness into a form that is almost ethereal. That elegance dosn't take away from the powerfull fruit. The fruit in fact melds into the structure with ease. 1979 Clerc Milon, Pauillac (slightly oxidized capsules, some top/high shoulder fills)

In 1970 the underachieving fifth growth Clerc Milon was purchased by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, a watershed occasion for the estate, which had been producing medocre wines at best. Strange that the wines weren't always spectacular, if you consider that the vineyards of Clerc Milon lay sandwiched between Mouton and Lafite. Well, by the mid to late 70s, Rothschild had turned around this venerable estate. This represents a considerable value in mature Bordeaux.

91 points just scored by Robert parker-Feb 2009: "The dark ruby/purple-hued, mid-weight, elegant 2006 possesses sweet tannin as well as abundant concentration. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a dollop of Petit Verdot, it is an elegant, refreshing wine offering good purity as well as the potential to keep for 10-15 years." (04/07) 64% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot, 15% cabernet franc, 1% petit verdot. At property-wonderful perfumey black raspberry aromas. Sweet and elegant-mid-weight wine. Fine length. Seems b... 2003 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac
2003 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

95 points Wine Spectator: "Wow. This shows so much ripe fruit and berry character with just the right hint of lead pencil and spice. Full-bodied and very chewy. Big and powerful. Beautiful wine. Superb. Best after 2012." (03/06) Barrel sample according to Clyde Beffa, K&L's Bordeaux Buyer: "Deep nose and black color. Great balance and length. Lots of structure. Powerful wine with plenty of tannins. Should turn out well. Some cola flavors. This wine will open up. * " (03/04)

2006 Grand Puy Lacoste, Pauillac (1.5L)
2006 Grand Puy Lacoste, Pauillac (1.5L)

92 points Robert Parker: "While not at the level of the phenomenal 2005, Grand-Puy-Lacoste has produced another classic wine with the creme de cassis fruit that I often find in both Mouton Rothschild and Pontet-Canet, yet both of those vineyards are closer to the Gironde River. This wine has a pure personality, with the aforementioned classic creme de cassis notes, medium to full body, beautiful density, purity, texture, and length. If anything, this recalls a hypothetical blend of their brilliant 1995 and 1996. Tannins are elevated, so patience will be ... Read More »

1961 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (1.5L) Back In Stock!
1961 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (1.5L)

95 points Robert Parker: "In 1978, I had the 1961 Pichon Lalande from a magnum in which it was quite unready, but since then I have had the wine several times from a regular bottle (most recently at the chateau in March 1988) where it was equally impressive, and approaching its apogee. The wine is dark, almost opaque in color, with a huge, ripe, plummy bouquet and savory scents of cedar, toffee, and chocolate. The 1961 Pichon Lalande is rich, full bodied, viscous, and deep on the palate with a luscious, silky finish. Stylistically, it is reminiscent of t... Read More »

1982 Latour, Pauillac Top Pick!
1982 Latour, Pauillac

100 points Robert Parker: "The 1982 continues to surge in quality, moving from strength to strength. If I were going to pull the cork for pure pleasure on any of the Big 8, it would be this wine. Still an infant in terms of development, the wine displays extraordinary richness, ripeness, and the beginning of that compelling Latour perfume of cassis, cedar, walnuts, and minerals. Extremely full-bodied, concentrated, and thick, this viscous, chewy, large-scaled wine is also amazingly soft. Huge levels of tannin are concealed behind the layers of fruit.... Read More »

2000 Grand Puy Lacoste, Pauillac (1.5L)
2000 Grand Puy Lacoste, Pauillac (1.5L)

93 points Robert Parker: "This large-scaled wine has a saturated ruby/purple color and a big creme de cassis nose, with a hint of licorice and tobacco. Still somewhat closed, this deep, full-bodied, luscious, muscular offering exhibits ripe tannin, loads of fruit, and tremendous purity. This is a gorgeous example of one of the most popular wines in the Medoc. Its savory tannin and low acidity suggest it should be close to its plateau of drinkability in 4-6 years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020+." (04/03) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Very racy. Licorice,... Read More »

1985 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
1985 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac

96 points Wine Spectator: "Still incredibly youthful. Exhibits fabulous aromas of fresh fruit, minerals and chocolate with a hint of spice. Full-bodied and concentrated, with loads of fruit and tannins. Better after 2000.--Pichon-Lalande vertical." (11/97) 91 points Robert Parker: "An intensely fragrant bouquet of weedy cassis fruit, toasted bread, and smoke is evolved and developed. In the mouth, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and smooth, with flavors of jammy black fruits and herbs. The finish is lush and silky. This wine has not yet begun ... Read More »

2006 d'Armailhac, Pauillac (1.5L)
2006 d'Armailhac, Pauillac (1.5L)

91 points Robert Parker: "This impressive Pauillac is performing even better from bottle than it did from barrel. Made by the staff at Mouton Rothschild, it is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by a bouquet of grilled meats, subtle herbs, coffee, black currants, and a hint of camphor. The sweetness of the tannins, full-bodied mouthfeel, and stunning length, all in gorgeous symmetry, suggest this is one of the finest d’Armailhacs yet made..." (02/09) 89 points Wine Spectator: ... 2008 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (6L) (Pre-Arrival)
2008 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (6L) (Pre-Arrival)

Sensatio... Read More »

2008 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (Pre-Arrival)

94-96 points Robert Parker: "Terrific texture and opulence, forward fruit, sweet tannin, and a lush personality are found in this dense purple-colored 2008 along with copious quantities of sweet berries, roasted coffee, underbrush, black currant, and black cherry fruit. Sensationally pure, textured, and full-bodied, this will be a flamboyant, showy offering in its youth, but it is capable of lasting 20-30 years." (04/09) 93-95 points Wine Enthusiast. 93-95 points Neal Martin of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This has a deep garnet/purple colour. The n... Read More »
