Delicious wine. Classic style. According to the Wine Spectator: "Aromas of berry, earth and chocolate. Medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a light finish. A bit forward, but pleasant. Best after 2007." (03/07)

90 points Wine Spectator: "Licorice, tar and ripe berry aromas. Pretty and full-bodied, with velvety tannins, a solid core of fruit and a long finish. Beautiful. The second wine of Léoville-Barton. Best after 2011." (03/08) Here is one of the best second wines of this fabulous vintage. On par with Pagodes and Reserve de Comtesse at a fraction of the price. With 2005 Léoville-Barton selling for $120++, this wine is a super bargain. Unfortunately we only get 10 cases of this rarity. It will sell out almost instantaneously; don't delay.

94 points and one the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2009: "There’s a great dark color to this, with intense aromas of cedar, wood, new leather and crushed blackberry. Fullbodied, with loads of fruit and a firm, powerful palate. Long and mouthpuckering. A muscular baby." (03/09) 94 points and one of Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2009: "Right at the top of its form, this 2006 is one of the finest wines to come out of the vintage. 94 points Wine Enthusiast and a Top Wine of the Year: "The tannins dominate this dark, brooding wine. At this stage, it seems to have closed up, leaving the fruit and acidity buried. But with this concentration, the future looks promising. There is long aging potential here." 93 points Wine Spectator: "Currant, mineral, plum and light toasty oak follow through to a full body, with ultrasilky tannins and a long, caressing finish. This is thoroughly beautiful. Superbalanced and very pretty. Best after 2011." (03/08) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's Internation... Read More »

92 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of blackberry and currant with just a hint of black licorice follow through to a full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and subtle ripe fruit, giving licorice and mineral undertones. Complex and refined. Very well done. Best after 2011." (03/06) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A dark, dry, brooding wine, which has flavors of blackberries and red plum skins, which is not at all dominated by wood. This is a classic wine, with Saint-Julien’s elegance and 2003’s power." (05/06) 91 points Robert Parker: "Dense purple in color an... Read More »

91 points Robert Parker: "A very strong effort from Lagrange in 2006, this estate's tendency for including a nearly overwhelming oak component in its wines has been tamed in this cuvee, resulting in a better-balanced, potentially complex offering. A deep opaque purple color is followed by aromas of espresso roast, subtle pain grille, black currants, and cigar box. Full-bodied and surprisingly powerful for a 2006, with outstanding purity, texture, and depth, patience will be required for this beauty. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2027." (02/09) 90 points Wi... I would add that it is even better than that, and as profound as the 2005. Approximately 33% of the crop made it into Ducru, which came in at 13.1% natural alcohol. 90-93 points Robert Parker: "This estate has been fashioning terrific wines over recent vintages, and the 2008 is an opulent, dense purple-hued effort displaying sweet creme de cassis fruit intermixed with hints of tapenade, licorice, and roasted herbs. It exhibits fabulously pure fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a flamboyant, almost exotic richness. Very ripe, pure, and long, this will be a wine to drink young, but given past examples, it should be capable of lasting 15-20 years. It is a fabulous sleeper of the vintage." 93 points Wine Enthusiast: Beautifully dense, this generous, rich wine combines great fruit with a firm but sweet structure. The new wood element is still prominent, but this is now beginning to blend well with the ripe fruit. To finish, the tannins reassert themselves." (03/09) 91 points Robert Parker: "Dense ruby/purple, with sweet blackberry and black currant fruit with hints of smoke, espresso roast, and new saddle leather, this is another impressively endowed but tannic, backward style of wine. 93 points Robert Parker: "Smart consumers should be checking out this estate whose wines have been superb over recent vintages. Under the same ownership as Gloria, it is a classic St.-Julien with sensational concentration and intensity, but more powerful, thick, and muscular than wines such as Ducru Beaucaillou or Beychevelle. The 2005 possesses the vintage's structured, tannic mouthfeel as well as enormous concentration and massive extract. I do not think the estate has produced any wine since that can be said to be as complete and concentrated as the 1982... The wine offers a classic St.-Julien/Pauillac aromatic profile - intense cedar, some blackcurrants, a touch of oak, and good spice. The attractive earthy, floral, red currant, and raspberry notes are impressively intense and complex in the aromatics. This dark ruby/purple-tinged wine displays elegance, finesse, and a beautiful mouthfeel in a restrained, moderately intense, but still classic style with sweet tannins.
