As with all Roederer Estate wines, the Brut Rosé is comprised of 100 percent estate-grown grapes. Oak-aged wines from the Estate's reserve cellars are added to the blend, creating a multi-vintage cuvée in the traditional Roederer style. Only the cuvée (first pressing of 120 gallons/ton) is used—no premiere or deuxieme taille. The wine is then fermented at 65 degrees Fahrenheit in high-grade stainless-steel tanks. Five percent Pinot Noir is added for color prior to secondary fermentation; no malolactic fermentation is used. Oak-aged reserve wines from the... Read More »

Odd as it may sound, Domaine Chandon is a Pinot Noir house. For more than a quarter of a century, their Brut, Blanc de Noirs and Reserve have been based upon Pinot Noir and its cousin Pinot Meunier. In an effort to showcase these noble red varietals, they created a unique and distinctive style of Blanc de Noirs in 1974. Since then, this fruit-driven, full-flavored sparkling wine, featuring Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, has become one of their most popular wines. It’s forward and generous with intense ripe Pinot Noir fruit and lush complex flavors.

From the first name in American sparkling wine comes this elegant bubbly from the superb 2005 vintage. Schramsberg's Blanc de Blancs is dry and crisp, using small amounts of malolctic- and barrel-fermented wines in the blend for greater depth and texture. The 2005 growing season allowed for longer hang times on the chardonnay fruit that comprises this wine, drawn from top vineyards in Napa, Mendocino, Sonoma and Marin. 90 points and 1 Puff from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "90% Pinot Noir; 10% Chardonnay. A full dose of creamy yeast backed up by light, directly cherryish notes and by hints of burnt paper and baked brioche brands this wine as the real thing. It is explosively bubbled and is bristling with acidity and becomes a trifle hard and austere, yet it counters that minor bother with a minerally streak and a long finish." This Brut Rosé sparkler looks like a bottle full of strawberries. The pinot noir for this cuvée come from the older pinot noir vines on Iron Horse's Sonoma County-Green Valley property. The grapes get some extra hang time in the low lying fog, developing more intense flavors and distinct character. The pinot is then cold soaked for seven days on the skins, before fermentation, creating an intense color that marries well with the fresh strawberry and raspberry fruit tones that come from cold fermenting the juice.
