This brand new wine exhibits aromas of raspberry, blackberry, mint and black cherries. Vanilla and short bread cookie notes from oak aging bring balance and frame the ripe berry flavors. The tannins are fine and chalky, and there is also a mineral/earthy note to the wine that contributes to the multi-layer characteristics. A classic Napa Valley Cab and at a ridiculously fair price!

90 points Wine Spectator "Polished and silky in texture, with ripe blackberry, currant and mint flavors that keep sailing through the long, expressive finish. The tannins are beautifully integrated. Best from 2011 through 2017. " (Web only, 2009) If it's Columbia Crest's large production that helps keep its prices so pocket-friendly, we're all for it. But it's the fruit quality and attention to detail, despite the large production, that keeps us coming back. The H3 from the Horse Heaven Hills is fruit-forward and approachable style of Cabernet, with swe... Read More »

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "A very fine Cabernet that combines the modern cult style ripeness with old-fashioned structure to produce a wine of exceptional appeal. It's rich in mountain-intense black currants, bitter chocolate, spices and smoky oak, wrapped into splendid tannins, and the finish is throroughly dry. The grapes are from the Sonoma side of Spring Mountain, and the winemaker was veteran Marco DiGiulio." (11/09) Once again Caymus has hit a homerun with the latest release of their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2007 is an amazing bottling that rivals past great vintages such as 1994, 1997 and 2001. 90 points Robert Parker: "Slightly superior to the 2005, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa possesses a dark ruby/purple color as well as a creme de cassis, spice box, and floral-scented bouquet, and a medium to full-bodied finish. A strong effort, it should drink nicely for 12-15 years." (12/08) 89 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red-ruby. Aromas of black cherry, currant, menthol, licorice, minerals and tobacco, plus a whiff of superripeness. Plump, broad and smooth, with an early sweetness making this accessible from the outse... "Mr. Robert Parker told me and several others in October of 2008 that the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignons from Napa Valley could be one of the greatest vintages ever! Here is our first entry." (Clyde Beffa, K&L Wine Merchants) Our new 2007 Kalinda Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has arrived and it is totally reflective of this great harvest. Deep ruby in color, the nose explodes with cassis, currants and Rutherford dust which carries over into its hugely complex, broad, viscous, structured, focused mouth presentation. Lateral is inspired by the famous wines of the St-Emilion district of Bordeaux. The blending of Cabernet Franc and Merlot is the cornerstone of this model. Winemakers Marty Mathis and Chris Condos have been carefully assembling the Lateral blend for almost a decade. This 2006 is a wonderful tribute to Kathryn, who died earlier this year at the age of 82. She was a founding mother of Santa Cruz winemaking, and a talented visionary as well!

Best from 2011 through 2018." (07/09) One star from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "7% Merlot; 2% Cabernet Franc. All analogies to Merlot here are strictly intentional. Cannonball! The 2005 vintage of this affordable cabernet made a big splash in the wine world and the 2006 is even better. Most of the fruit for the 2006 vintage came from small growers in southern Mendocino County; the new vintage also adds small amounts of petite sirah (15%), petit verdot (5%) and syrah (3%) to enhance the texture and aromatics. This is for fans of fun, fruit-forward wines as its packed full of berry aromas touched by just a hint of caramel. And if the aromas are like the run up to the edge of the pool, the palate releases all of the fu... Read More »

Since all the way back to 1972 Silver Oak has been bottling Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley. In fact they were one of the first to champion the now well know region of Alexander Valley by putting it on their label. While their Napa Valley bottling has garnered more attention, and possibly press over the years, we think the Alexander Valley bottling is still one of the best Cabs out there for the money. The 2007 California vintage is revealing itself to be quite impressive. The Wine Spectator's Jim Laube wrote this spring (2009): "I expected 2007 to be a great year for California wine, and indeed it's shaping up that way across the board for all varietals...What made 2007 so good is that one the winter rains stopped, spring was dry, the set was good and winegrowers were able to farm the vineyards the way they wanted to.
