The Transcendentalist is a three vintage blend of 37% grenache, 33% mourvedre and 30% syrah. Sourced from several of the Central Coast's best vineyards, this wine transcends space and time to deliver a flavors of black tea, pomegranate, hoisin, black pepper and sandalwood accents. Fans of Orin Swift's "The Prisoner" will love this wine. Considering five dollars more gets you a magnum, this sounds like a deal that shouldn't be passed up.

91 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe pear, apple and honeydew melon flavors are shaded by spicy, toasty oak. A rich, creamy style. Full-bodied, with a touch of sweetness. Drink now through 2011." (06/09) Don't miss the new vintage of every California Chardonnay lover's favorite wine: Rombauer! The 2007 vintage Carneros Chardonnay is packed full of tropical and stone fruit aromas and flavors with the spicy oak tones from barrel fermentation that has garnered this wine a bigger fan base than almost any chardonnay we've carried. Drink now through 2016." (11/09) Once again Caymus has hit a homerun with the latest release of their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2007 is an amazing bottling that rivals past great vintages such as 1994, 1997 and 2001. Made in the quintessential California Cabernet Sauvignon style, this wine is big, rich and hedonistic, with flavors of dark ... Read More »

Since all the way back to 1972 Silver Oak has been bottling Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley. In fact they were one of the first to champion the now well know region of Alexander Valley by putting it on their label. While their Napa Valley bottling has garnered more attention, and possibly press over the years, we think the Alexander Valley bottling is still one of the best Cabs out there for the money. At about half the price of the Napa bottling, and with many other Alexander Valley producers charging more for their wines, this bottling looks m... Read More »

94 points and two stars in the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines: "18% Carignane; 7% Petite Sirah. Of all the Zinfandels produced by this greatly respected winery, none has stood out more than Geyserville over the years. Perhaps it is the very high percentages of other grapes that are planted in the vineyard and have found their ways into the wine. Indeed, in many years, Geyserville has not reached the required 75% Zinfandel content needed to bear the varietal name. That this edition does cross that barrier is not to suggest that its character has ... Read More »

94-96 points Robert Parker: "The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (1,500 cases) is made in a different style than the 2006, but it is just as provocative and compelling in quality. The sweetness of its tannins sets it apart from other vintages, but it exhibits a dense purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of incense, blackberries, cedar, licorice, and a hint of charcoal. It possesses remarkable full-bodied power and concentration along with stunning purity, equilibrium, and a finish that elicits a big smile. This fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon is b... Read More »

92 points Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "Heavily extracted aromas of black cherries, dark soils, hints of licorice and scads of rich oak announce this wine's serious intentions, and it continues in the mouth with deep, ripe, layered flavors whose slight tilt to ripeness is nothing more than we have seen in virtually all Shafer releases. The key, of course, is that Shafer wines have historically shown their ability to carry the style off to perfection, and, given this bottling's depth of fruit and underlying solidity, it joins the exalted ranks ... Another of Ridge's classic wines - and from the wow-worthy 2007 vintage nonetheless. Fans of Lytton Springs should not miss this vintage. It contains about 22% Petite Sirah and 7% Carignane in addition to Zin for a round, spicy, complex wine. Rich and balanced and, as always, refined, this wine will show you how well Zin can age, if you can hold onto it for long enough.

(May/June 07) 90 points and one star from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "Here is a deep and yet relatively winsome young Cabernet that strikes a different stance than those in the brooding, muscle-bound crowd. (06/09) Duckhorn has made their reputation on exceptional merlots and the 2006 vintage may be one of their best yet. Possibly one of the hardest California wines to keep in stock, the Rombauer Chardonnay is THE Chardonnay that fans of the buttery, spicy, ripe and rich take on the varietal measure all other Chards against. Shows a vast repository of black currant, blackberry, black cherry and new oak flavors wrapped into a smooth, velvety mouthfeel whose finish goes on forever. Masculine and authoritative, it should continue to improve for many years. Drink now, with decanting, and through 2017, at least." This is the second vintage of Papillon, Orin Swift's Bordeaux-style blend. The 2006 is Left Bank in style, with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. The aromatics are still a bit closed right now, tending toward smoke and vanilla, but the spring fruit that comes through on the palate - strawberry and rhubarb - is peeking through. Hints of root beer, cherry and baking spice linger on the wine's structured finish.

Proof that merlot's bad rap is entirely unjustified, the 2005 Twomey Merlot is luscious and balanced with plenty of stuffing to drink well for more than a decade.
