Sinskey's biodynamically farmed Carneros vineyards produce some really spectacular fruit, as can be seen in their 2007 Pinot Noir bottling. The color of Red Rock desert but sparkling and translucent in color, the red fruit aromas and spice lure you in with their inherant character. On the palate, the fruit is tangy and sweet - raspberries and cranberries touched off by citrus zest - with an earthy underpinning that keeps the wine from becoming a fruit bomb. Satin tannins and bright acidity keep you wanting more, espcially if you're enjoying this at cella... Read More »

Made entirely from organically grown Zinfandel (with a dash of organically grown Petite Sirah) from some super old vines. Rich and fruity in the Amador style that we love, this wine swirls jammy blackberry and cherry fruit with Hershey Kiss chocolate and vanilla notes. The finish is sweet and velvety, making this a good match for grilled meats or roasts.

92 poinst Wine & Spirits: "This elegant Gris leads with a leesy pear scent, accented by a floral note that recalls lilac. Its flavors fall between pear and pear skin, with a faint bitter almond note that gives it the firmness for pork loin." (06/09) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Light and silky, shining a vivid beam of lemon, melon and pear flavors through the persistent finish. Drink now through 2011." 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lots of new, smoky oak stands out on this polished Cab. Give it a little time in a decanter before you drink, as it pulls together, becoming more powerful and accenting the blackberry and cherry flavors. Should develop for a decade." The 2006 Ehlers Estate Cab is sultry without being vampy. Its dark blackberry and cherry aromas lure you in, with hints of chocolate, espresso bean, smoke and spice that complement the fruit nicely. The wine fills your mouth with bold fruit and satiny tanns that glide across your palate. Nicely structured and enjoyable now, with 5-10 years of life ahead of it.

95 points from Robert Parker: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon has put on significant weight since last year. This seems to be a common occurrence in 2005, which do have a more European structural underpinning, but have definitely increased their intensity of fruit as they have aged in cask--always a positive sign. This wine has an inky bluish/purple color to the rim, a sweet nose of white flowers intermixed with black currants, a deep full-bodied mouthfeel, superb purity, plenty of tannin, but it is sweet, integrated, and the wine long (over 40 seconds), wi... This a certified organic blend of Pinot Gris (85%) and Gewurztraminer (15%) (though there are also really small amounts of Rieslaner and Kerner as well). This Alsatian-style blend is better than ever in 2008, where the moderately warm growing season and cool fall allowed for fresh acidty and ripe fruit, as well as more pronounced floral qualities. Hints of pear and honeysuckle and a subtle minerality linger on the finish. Wow.

90 points and one star from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "Classically Grgich in its restrained first impressions, this fairly full and yet firm bottling reluctantly offers up notes of green apples, toasty oak and hints of lime in its aromas, but the wine surprises on the palate with much more evident depth to its firm, tight but promising flavors. This is a wine that has the right pieces in the right places for cellaring." (Oct. 2008) For 30 years the label Grgich Hills has been synonymous with the pioneering spirit that put the Napa Valle... Made from 90 percent Sangiovese, 5 percent Nero d'Avola, 3 percent Cinasult and 2 percent Colorino, this is a dark, even brooding sangiovese blend made mostly from grapes grown biodynamically at Gimelli Vineyard in San Benito County. The vineyard is just over the range from the Ca' del Solo vineyard, tucked into a box canyon that shields the vines from the prevailing winds. 91 points from Wine Enthusiast: "Few winemakers in California understand acidity better than Randall Grahm, and he provides plenty of it in this brilliantly clean, bone-dry wine. It cleanses the mouth with scoury flavors of lychee, lime, nectarine, minerals and peppery nasturtium, with a foresty, resinous quality suggesting pine cone." The Pheasant Valley Vineyard is one of three organic vineyard sites in the Sineann portfolio and one of two biodynamic ones, and it's even certified. The vineyard is in the Hood River Valley, which is a famous growing region east of Portland, Oregon that boasts higher daytime temps than the Willamette Valley to the south, as well as less rain. It's not easy being green - that is unless you're a frog, or, in this case, Frog's Leap. The Rutherford winery has been farming its vineyards organically since 1988, and they also dry farm nearly 200 acres, saving water, too. This winery might have a fun personality, but it doesn't mean they don't take winemaking seriously.
