Once again , this wine hits the spot. Great wine at a great price. Luscious red fruit, hint of blue fruit, forest floor, a pinch of baking spices. A balanced, cold weather pinot noir. The wine won't last very long, it has very limited production. (Mike Jordan, K&L Wine Merchants)

The fruit sources for this medium-bodied Syrah are split evenly between the Santa Cruz Mountains and Monterey County. Medium-bodied, with mineral, rhubarb and plum fruit and subtle lavender and vanilla overtones. Mouthcoating tannins and good acidity make this a fresher, vibrant Syrah for drinking young with hearty foods.

This is the perfect after dinner wine, contemplative, complex and comforting. A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc this is a familiar blend presented in an entirely different way. From all free run juice this has an outstanding nose of mocha, carob, black currant, camphor and tarragon. Intense is a word that I wrote about this wine but to most that would be misleading. This is not a heavy, oak laden wine but it is complex and lasting with flavors that unfold gracefully. It is a wine that you have to think about to enjoy. D... Read More »

Slower to reveal itself than other Big Basin wines, the Mandala Syrah is just starting to hint at its potential. It comes the winery's Estate vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains as well Fairview Ranch in the Santa Lucia Highlands. The combination of fruit creates a wine that, with some air, opens up to display aromas of plum, rhubarb, spice, white pepper and a little pine pitch. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with flavors of blackberry, Big cherry cedar box and earth. Firm tannins and lingering spice on the finish. This wine will really start ... Read More »

The Santa Lucia Highlands have fast become one of California's top spots for growing winegrapes - comibing altitude, soil and the climactic influences from Monterey Bay. This is Big Basin's third vintage from this vineyard, and it really shows the year's spectacular character. With Chinese Five Spice, black pepper, anise and red fruit aromas, this full-bodied wine promises a lot and delivers. Red fruit, white pepper, cedar, baon fat and spice, with a hint if citrus zest round out the palate of this mouthcoating wine. Exuberant in its youth, it will deve... Read More »

The Rattlesnake Rock name was inspired by the large outcrop of sandstone boulders in the middle of the Rattlesnake Rock vineyard block and the snakes that may sometimes be found there. Yikes! This intense wine is a deep garnet color. Notes of toasted cinnamon, cardamom, currants, chocolate, cigar box, kirsch, blueberry, creme brulée unfold on the nose. Medium to full body with fine tannins that lay evenly across palate from front to back revealing hints of cloves, mulberry and olallaberry with a long lasting finish that lingers with an unctuous persisten...
