94 points Robert Parker: "Not surprisingly, the 2006 is a bigger, more muscular, less charming effort displaying unbridled power, full-bodied richness, and notes of new saddle leather, black fruits, roasted herbs, and burning embers. Powerful and rich with sweet tannin, low acidity, and more structure and density than the 2005 as well as less nuance and complexity, the 2006 should be consumed over the next 15+ years." (12/08) From Wine Spectator: "Firm, tight and tannic, with dried currant, baked berry, sage, herb and mineral flavors that veer toward ch... Read More »

Not yet rated! Hands down, one of California's most spectacular Cabernets! The 2006 got 94 points from the Spectator, and this review: "Complex, riveting aromas of spice, cola and sassafras join wild berry, spice, black cherry and sage notes in this full-bodied, intensely flavored, tightly focused and very persistent display of fruit that's long and lingering. Drink now through 2017." This will not last long on the shelves, so pick up your "allocation" now!

96 points Robert Parker: "There are 6,500 cases of the superb 2006 Dominus (91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot). Its dark plum/purple color is accompanied by aromas and flavors of truffles, forest floor, black cherries, black currants, and Asian spices. One of the finest wines of the vintage, it is complete, full-bodied, and seamlessly built with beautiful ripe tannins, low acidity, and a luscious, layered mouthfeel. The aromatics are even more evolved and complex than the 2005's. The 2006 should drink well for 20-25 years." (... Read More »

95 points Wine Spectator: "Pure, rich and focused on a beam of ripe plum, cherry and currant, with touches of anise and cedar. Deliciously complex, deep and persistent, ending with ripples of rich, creamy flavors. Drink now through 2015." (06/09) The critically acclaimed wines from Lewis Cellars are always popular here at K&L - selling out in a flash. Fortunately, the 2006 Reserve Cab was made in quantity, at least compared to some of the winery's other bottlings, a whopping 2,000 cases. This is serious Cab sourced from Pritchard Hill, Calistoga, Ruther... Read More »

89 points Wine Spectator: "Sleek and complex, full-bodied and Bordeaux-like, with an earthy mineral edge to the dried berry and currant flavors that are subdued and tightly wound, ending with earthy tannins. Needs time. Best from 2011 through 2017." (10/09)

96 points Robert Parker: "The 2005 Proprietary Red is significantly better than what I tasted last year, although I certainly gave it a high score. This wine has fleshed out beautifully. The final blend (84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec) has a deep purple color, a beautifully sweet nose of blackberries and cassis intermixed with some meatiness, smoke, and a touch of pain grille as well as notes of espresso and licorice. Full-bodied, rich, with decent acidity, excellent delineation, and moderately h... Read More »

97 points from Robert Parker: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select continues to put on weight, and displays a Bordeaux-like personality because of the vintage’s cool growing season. A black purple color, stunningly sweet fruit, and a gorgeous bouquet of underbrush, forest floor, creme de cassis, lead pencil shavings, and toasty barrique are found in this ripe, full-bodied, deep, stunningly well-balanced, substantial wine with undeniable complexity as well as richness. It is approachable now, but promises to evolve for 25 or more years." (12/08) ... Read More »

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Nearly all Cabernet Sauvignon with only a tiny amount of Cabernet Franc in the blend, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is not nearly as expressive as the 2005 or the potentially perfect 2007. Stylistically faithful to the vintage, it is more monolithic and muscular as well as less expressive aromatically, but substantial in size, and somewhat masculine. It is a big wine that should age well, possibly turning out better than my range of scores suggests. Dense blueberry and black currant flavors are accompanie... Read More »

The Monte Bello vineyard was first planted back in 1886, but was essentially abandoned after Prohibition. It was replanted in 1949, and has been the source of one of Ridge's best known wines since it was first made in 1962. Cabernet, Cab Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot are all planted at this ridgetop vineyard overlooking the San Francisco peninsula. The 2006 vintage is comprised of 13 exceptional lots, four of which required egg white fining to soften the tannins. Petit Verdot and Cab Franc add depth to this wine, which is taught with great structure and... Read More »

Robert Parker writes: "The well-known Bob Foley has been the consistent force behind these high quality wines from Hourglass. Their top wine comes from a gently sloping vineyard near Napa’s Lodi Lane. They have now added another group of wines under the Blue Line designation which exhibit considerable promise, although the production figures are relatively low, about 350-500 cases of each of the Blue Line offerings." Drink now through 2016." (11/09) Once again Caymus has hit a homerun with the latest release of their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2007 is an amazing bottling that rivals past great vintages such as 1994, 1997 and 2001. 93 points + Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 08 Good deep ruby-red. Complex aromas of currant, licorice, graphite, bitter chocolate, smoked meat, tobacco and brown spices. Began juicy, penetrating and quite youthfully unevolved, but aeration brought a suppler, rounder texture and more generosity to this impressively structured wine. Complicating notes of bitter cherry, menthol and minerals. This will require a good eight to ten years of aging but the substantial tannins are sweet and lush. 96 points and #17 on the Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2009: "Made from 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, with no Merlot or Cabernet Franc for the first time, the ’05 Rubicon tastes bigger and more impenetrable than any previous vintage. It’s thick and heavy at this time, with furry tannins and undeniably ripe flavors of blackberries, black currants, cherries, violets, chocolate and cedar, and a tang of melted minerals. Desperately needs time in the cellar. Nowhere near ready for at least four years, and that may be conservative.Tasted three times... Read More »

Since all the way back to 1972 Silver Oak has been bottling Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley. In fact they were one of the first to champion the now well know region of Alexander Valley by putting it on their label. While their Napa Valley bottling has garnered more attention, and possibly press over the years, we think the Alexander Valley bottling is still one of the best Cabs out there for the money. At about half the price of the Napa bottling, and with many other Alexander Valley producers charging more for their wines, this bottling looks m... Read More »

The 2005 Cain Five shows an emphasis on the palate feel: the texture of the tannins is extremely fine, yet distinctly present, like silk. The aromas are of fresh red cherries and exotic spices. It is gratifying to see how well this wine evolves in the open glass, which bodes well for the future. Today, you should decant the wine, and sip it carefully. Very very meticulous winemaking goes into this wine, including: hand picking, gentle destemming, native-yeast fermentation, and manual pressing. The wine completes malolactic fermentation in the barrel, is ... Read More »

95 points from Wine Enthusiast: "A dramatic young wine, fleshy and dazzling now for its lush fruit and oak, although the tannins have a crunchy hardness. But that merely ensures ageability. It’s beautiful the way the acid-tannin structure plays against the cherry, cassis and olive fruit, creating an architectural tension. If you open this wine now, decant for a few hours. Otherwise, it should hold for six to eight years, and develop further bottle complexity afterward." (12/15/2007) 94 points Wine & Spirits: "From the Huneeus estate on the east side of N... 94-96 points Robert Parker: "The 2007 Pinot Noir Cuvee Natalie Silver Belt, which emanates from a Sonoma Coast vineyard, is made from a 50/50 blend of the Swan and Calera heritage California clones. Sweet notes of balsam wood, black raspberries, spring flowers as well as hints of cherry and blueberry are all present in this dark, profoundly rich, broad, and savory Pinot Noir. It is well-built, although still backward and needing several years of bottle-age, but it should evolve for 10-15 years." (12/08)
