90 points and one the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2009: "Bright plum, dried cherry and flowers on the nose. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and refined berry and cherry flavors. Drink now." (10/09) And from Wine Spectator's James Suckling's Blog: "I came across an incredible value in my office in Tuscany today...the most impressive [wine] for the money was the Monte Antico 2006. Its suggested retail is $11, and it could sell for less. And it's in the market now. Granted, I have not tasted it blind yet. But it's in the very good to outstanding range... Read More »

91 points Wine Spectator: "Shows sweet blueberry notes, with mineral and lilac. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and vanilla and bright fruit flavors. Clean and racy. Best after 2010." (10/09) The Castello di Nipozzano was built in 1000 in the heart of the Chianti Rufina zone as a fortress. Fortunately for us, its defensive intentions are no longer necessary, and today it is used as the cellar where the Nipozzano wines are made and aged. The rich clay and limestone-rich soils, combined with the dry climate, make for full-bodied, structured fruit, which i... Read More »

90 points Wine Spectator "A full-bodied, well-structured version, with crushed black fruit, flowers and oak on the nose and palate, coating the firm tannins and giving a long, controlled finish. Tempting now, but will improve. Best after 2009." According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chianti Classico offers up floral red fruit in a ripe, soft style that is typical of the vintage. Drink this generous, engaging Chianti Classico over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012." (08/09) And finally, from Wine Enthusiast: "Castello di... Read More »

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Chianti Classico is typically one of the last Chiantis to be bottled, but the 2006 shows all the qualities I encountered when I tasted various lots earlier this year, prior to final assembly and bottling. It is a big, super-ripe Chianti that captures all of the best qualities of the vintage in its super-ripe fruit and beautifully defined aromatics. This is a serious, structured Chianti that can be enjoyed now, but that also has the stuffing to age gracefully for years. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016." (01/09... Read More »

Bold and forward on the nose with rich impressions of fruit, particularly dark cherry, dried plum and concluding with crisp, sweet almond notes. The attack is clean and fresh, and the palate shows supple tannins and a lengthy progression. Crazy that you get all this for right around ten bucks. According to the Wine Spectator: "Light and fruity, with fresh raspberry and blackberry character. Clean and fresh. Drink now." (10/08)

From an outstanding vintage in Chianti, this is classic Sangiovese offered now at a ridiculously low price. Deep cherry fruit, integrated tannins and bright acidity call for meat-based red sauces and your favorite Tuesday night pasta!

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo is seriously dark, rich and intense. Dark cherries, tobacco, herbs and minerals come together in this brooding, weighty Vigna del Sorbo. Today the wine comes across as completely closed and folded in on itself, but with time it should emerge as a beauty. The elegance of the superb 2004 seems missing, and this looks to be an especially concentrated vintage for this wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026. My visit to Fontodi last year was fascinating, as I spent sever... Read More »

89 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chianti Classico is a sweet, super-ripe wine with an enticing core of fruit. The heat of the vintage has filled out the wine nicely. Although the acidity is still relatively high, this doesn't look to be an especially long-lived wine. That should hardly matter, though, as readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this gem. In 2007 the Chianti Classico is a selection of fruit from eleven different vineyards harvested between the end of September and early October. The wine was mostly aged... Read More »

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is a vibrant, focused wine that flows with the essence of dark fruit, minerals and flowers. The wine possesses gorgeous length and proportion, all of which is framed by powerful yet well-integrated tannins. Simply put, this is a superb Chianti that also happens to be one of the best relative values in fine, age worthy wine. The Rancia is made from vines planted on poor soils at 420 meters above sea level. In 2006, the Rancia spent 16 months in French oak, of which 60% was n... Read More »

2 Red Glasses Gambero Rosso. 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate's top Chianti bottling, the 2004 Chianti Classico Riserva San Marcellino is made from 100% Sangiovese and spent 18 months in French Allier oak barrels. It reveals a powerful, brooding expression of scorched earth, tobacco, dark fruit and toasted oak. The layers of fruit need bottle age to gain volume and depth while the building tannins require time to settle down even though the use of French oak is very refined. This wine of superb weight and density offers temendous pote... Read More »

2007 is just an outstanding vintage in Chianti and, for that matter, most of Italy. La Massa's owner/winemaker Giampaolo Motta's spectacular position in Panzano's legendary Conca d'Oro vineyard slope allows him to get the highest quality grapes on a regular basis, but for this year it was a embarrassment of riches. His 2007 La Massa is 60% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and it spent 14 months in small French oak barrels (20% new) with bâtonnage and micro-oxygenation, emulating Giampaolo's favorite Bordeaux. The 2006 La Massa IGT was a... Read More »

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Adovcate: "Antinori’s flagship Chianti, the 2004 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchesi Antinori, reveals greater depth, vibrancy and freshness. Ripe black cherries, new leather, menthol, smoke and wild herbs flow from this sweet, layered Chianti. The wine is approachable today, but also has the tannic backbone and stuffing to insure another decade or so of very fine drinking. It spent 14 months in small French oak barrels prior to being bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019." (06/08) According to the Wine Spectator: "...Ful... Read More »

Wine Club
Club Price: $24.9992 points Wine Spectator: "Solid and powerful CC, offering loads of black fruit, gamy and vanilla character. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a long, balanced, dark chocolate-tinged finish. Lots of toasted oak and ripe fruit. Still needs to come together, yet such potential. Best after 2003." (10/02) K&L's notes - Giorgio Primo comes from winemaker Giampaolo Motta, The King Of Chianti, as he is known. Motta is a world-class winemaker who was inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux. This should arrive at K&L sometime around 11/30/09

90 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers ripe blackberry and raspberry, with pronounced floral and mineral notes. Almost meaty in character. Medium- to full-bodied, with a silky texture and lots of flavor. Finishes long, with an almost exotic twist in the end. Lots to enjoy. Drink now." (09/08)

According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Monte Antico is perhaps a touch more complex than the 2003. It presents a darker, livelier color typical of the cooler vintage along with expressive, perfumed aromatics and plenty of vibrant dark cherry fruit. Its considerable freshness and attractive minerality insure it will drink well for the next three to four years. It is an outstanding value. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2010." (06/07)

The 2005 San Vincenti Chianti Classico is an expression of this lone highland vineyard; it is 100% sangiovese and classic. Sangiovese's linear character on the palate makes a dramatic statement about length, coupled with a very rich mid palate feel. This mid palate richness doesn't portray itself with gobs of ripe, sweet fruit it just gives density to the middle of the wine. The nose is molten Galestro, sweet earth, tobacco, new saddle leather, sage, and rosemary, spicy, vibrant and full of mineral. On the palate the wine really comes together the densit... Read More »

92 points Wine Enthusiast "Opaque with a dark brooding nose. Great, if somewhat hidden, depth of fruit and excellent balance: the fruit-acid-tannin triangle is textbook perfect. Very tight now, this is a keeper for sure. Try to avoid touching it for three to five years. Some day it will drink like a $50 bottle. Will keep till 2015." (5/1/1999) 90(+?) points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good dark red-ruby color. High-toned aromas of violet, dried flowers and spearmint. Ripe, juicy red berry and dried flower flavors given clarity by sound ... Read More »

Clove, nutmeg and black pepper with hints of walnuts and paprika and loads of blackberry. Dalla Pancia means 'of the belly,' and you will want to put this one in yous. The palate is light bodied, featuring dusty tannins, black pepper notes, and a strong acid element. 2006 was a classic vintage in Chianti. The finish offers an extension of the tannins along with refreshing sour cherry notes.

2 Glasses Gambero Rosso. 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva San Marcellino is a classic example of high level Sangiovese, intense and riveting in its expression of ripe red currant fruit, tar, and chocolate, warm and forceful on the palate, strong and balanced from the attack to the finish and with grip and authority to burn. It will drink well for another dozen years. An impressive lineup of wines, to say the least." (04/06) K&L's notes - The 2001 Rocca di Montegrossi Chianti Classico Riserva has power, structure... Oct 31, 2009 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "The 2006 Syrah is a big, massive effort loaded with dark fruit, tar, licorice, earthiness and game. This rich, full-bodied wine shows off well-articulated aromatics that meld into a rich core of ripe fruit. The finish is long and pure. Generally I prefer rosé upon release, but this wine has enough stuffing to drink beautifully for at least another year. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011." You say rosé, I say Rosato! According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate’s 2004 Chianti Classico Riserva Lucius is a barrique-aged blend of Sangiovese with Cabernet and Merlot. Medium- to full-bodied, it offers gorgeous dark fruit with excellent depth as well as length on the palate and fine overall balance in a richer style than the normal bottling. 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Chianti Classico Castello di Ama is a terrific effort. It offers incredible purity and vibrancy in its core of sweet dark cherries and refined, elegant tannins. The wine shows nice density buffered by firm tannins that will need another year or two to soften. The wine clearly benefits from the addition of the fruit that normally goes into the estate’s top Chianti Classico bottings, which were not made in 2005. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017."(06/2008)
