Haut Charmes is a very special Sauternes bottling, made from the younger vines of one of the region's most legendary château. While we aren't allowed to actually reveal the source, it's safe to say its location in the Ciron Valley exposes the Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon fruit to conditions perfect for the development of botrytis. Charming, elegant and an exceptional value for what's in the bottle; Wonderful pineapple and coconut aromas that follow to the palate stunning wine just like its big brother. This is the best sticky value in the world, and we t... Read More »

Second wine of Doisy-Vedrines. Great value! Its big brother got 94-96 points from Parker for the 2007, and this review: "This has a superb nose, comparable to Doisy-Daene, perhaps unusually with an even greater sense of minerality and delineation. White flowers, a touch of honey, peach and apricot. The palate is just superb, probably the best Doisy-Védrines I have tasted out of barrel with a greater sense of poise and definition than previous vintages. Lots of botrytized fruit, lemon zest, barleysugar, honey, a touch of marmalade towards the finish. Grea... Read More »

Tasted three times. Big wine that is fat and oily, with extremely rich and honeyed flavors. Perfect acidity gives the wine excellent balance.

94-97 points Wine Spectator: "Violets and dark berries, with loads of aromas. Full-bodied, with a gorgeous core of sweet and ripe fruit. Long and dense, yet stylish. 10 acres. Next to Clos Fortet. 90 percent Merlot and 10 percent Cabernet Franc." (04/10) 90-92 points Robert Parker: "This is a solidly made, modern-style St.-Emilion from nearly eight acres of vineyards, with one parcel planted in 1901. Yields were just 25 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine hit 13.8% alcohol. Consultant Stephane Derenoncourt teams up with proprietor Michael Bortolussi to... Read More »

This is classic salmon colored Provencal rosé made up of cinsault, syrah, cabernet and grenache. It is sourced from their partners outside of the estate. It is still hand harvested by the domaine and vinified at their facility. This wine has subtle aromas of citrus zest and pink grapefruit with a touch of strawberry. It is clean and precise. Last year this was one of our favorites in LA. 12.5% abv.

There is nothing better than finding a new product that is outstanding, like this cassis from Pierre Chemette. Small production and impeccable quality here...almost too good for kir!
Conundrum is owned by the Wagner family of Caymus Vineyards, but stands on its own as a separate brand. Charlie Wagner and Jon Bolta share responsibilities of the proprietary wine. In 2007 production expanded into a state-of-the art winery in Monterey County close to the sources of the most grape varietals that make up the wine. This is the first vintage to be produced at the new production-only Conundrum winery. This 2008 shows gorgeous aromas of apricot, honeysuckle, and vanilla and lime zest enhance a deeply-flavored palate of tropical fruit, peach, p... Read More »

It's amazing that the half-bottle of this wine is only $10.99 considering the exceptional fruit that goes into it. Made using chardonnay sourced from top vineyard on the Napa and Sonoma sides of Carneros, including Sangiacomi, Beckstoffer and Durell, among others. There's also a dose of fruit from MacRostie's Wildcat Mountain Estate Vineyard. Like key lime crème brulee on the nose, the palate tends toward apple crisp and mango flavors. Creamy and broad, this is California chardonnay to a tee. From the Wine Spectator: "Ripe, complex and full-bodied, with... Read More »

89 points Robert Parker: "The 2008 Zinfandel Sonoma offers up copious amounts of blue, red, and black fruits as well as excellent purity, medium to full body, a supple texture, and enough acidity to provide vibrancy. It is a pure, elegant, substantial Zinfandel to drink over the next 3-4 years. " (02/10) Year after year, Ted Seghesio releases some of the best Zinfandels on the market. 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jul/Aug 10: "Bright ruby. Black raspberry and flowers on the nose, with a strong undertone of musky spices that gains strength in the glass. Pliant, palate-coating dark berry flavors are appealingly open-knit. Nicely ripe but quite light on its feet, finishing very good clarity, spiciness and lingering sweetness."

Made to the same set of recipes since 1821, Dolin Vermouth de Chambéry has long been the benchmark for fine French Vermouth. Made with fine wines of the region and botanicals found in the Alpine meadows above Chambéry, together they impart a fresh and elegant nose, with a subtle and complex palate. Ideal as an aperitif or in cocktails. In the late 19th century, Dolin Vermouth de Chambéry won medals in Paris, London, St. Louis and Philadelphia and in 1932 earned Chambéry France's only Appellation d’ Origine for Vermouth.

If you are familiar with the lush, opulent style of Stags Leap District Cabernet you’ll recognize that our 2007 Cabernet more than meets expectations. Cassis, blackberries and plums along with vanilla, mocha and clove make up the aromatic profile of this new Cabernet. There is unquestionable richness on the palate, and a full burst of beautiful fruit is followed by mid palate unctuousness. The finish is long and very, very silky.

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "A gold-colored wine. The palate has intense freshness as well as ripe apricot and orange zest flavors. The acidity cuts through the intense richness, leaving a wine that needs time to fully integrate, and then many more years to mature." (06/10) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Guiraud 2007 has a typically unabashed, exuberant bouquet with tangerine, pear, white peach and honeysuckle. Some bitterness. 35 percent Sauvignon Blanc and 65 percent Sémillon." 95-97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Poised well between complex dry botrytis and very sweet, ripe fruit, this is a concentrated wine, full of richness rather than total sweetness. It's no coincidence that Rosenblum's Désirée Chocolate Dessert Wine looks like it's called "desire" at first glance. There may be no better aperitif for an outdoor spring meal than a glass of dry rosé. Then again, I would not stick my nose up at a chilled Kir, either. Made with any ol' simple white wine (Aligoté is the traditional choice, but a Mâcon or Pinot Blanc work just fine) and the addition of a healthy dash of Crème di Cassis, a Kir is refreshing, palate awakening and the barest bit sweet. This Cassis by Mathilde is a quality example, which will add some serious umph to your Kir, though it's equally tasting as a topping for vanilla ice cream.

It's not easy making Vin Santo. For starters the grapes (trebbiano and malvasia) are left to dry slowly in a special outbuilding, which concentrates the sugar and flavor component considerably. What little juice is left after this process is fermented and stored in very small casks called caratelli, which are filled just three-fourths of the way. And then time stands still. For four years the wine oxidizes and ages, and then: Perfection! Villa Pillo's Vin Santo is an archetypal example of Tuscany's after dinner sipper. Ideal with biscotto at the close of... Read More »

Year in and year out we love this wine, and the 2007 is no exception. Aromas of raspberry, cherry, cedar, spice, caramelized brown sugar, and sweet oak move toward a palate of dark cherry and raspberry flavors mingling with rich, compelling layers of blueberry, cedar and molasses.
