2007 Undone Pinot Noir $10.99
Sometimes a great wine pops up when you least expect it. This bottle has a lot to overcome in the US market; the fact that people don't necessarily think of Germany for great value Pinot Noir, the fancy, hip, label depicting a woman's corset being "undone", and the fact that it is $10.99 AND imported. To be honest I had little hope but again here we are... Much like the Bernier Chardonnay we have been selling the heck out of this wine exceeds its humble beginnings. The Undone Pinot Noir is all about fun, easy drinking pleasure. Bottled with a screw c... Read More »

Universally regarded as one of the three rising stars of the new generation of Rheingauers (with Künstler and Weil). Extraordinarily aromatic, vigorous wines from a vintner who grows more commanding each vintage. This is the wine that once was called Rüdesheimer Drachenstein, and it’s the wine David Schildknecht said was the best Riesling value in the world, which is because Johannes sells it to us for much less than it’s worth. For a large-production wine this receives the same care in the vineyards and cellar that every Leitz wine receives.

93 points Wine Spectator: "Light-bodied and filigreed, offering apricot, lime and slate flavors that build and build on the palate. There's lovely clarity and harmony, with a lingering orange- and lime-tinged aftertaste. Drink now through 2035. 100 cases made." (11/08) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Eymael's 2007 Erdener Pralat Riesling Auslese is elixir- and liqueur-like in style and intensity, featuring aromas and flavors of tangerine, honeydew melon. But at the same time, there is a rhubarb-like, invigorating tartness woven in that offers a... Read More »

Sekt is the German name for sparkling wine, a style that they are very passionate about and drink on a regular basis. Some estates have made it a specialty and are well respected for their bubbly. Such an estate is Fitz-Ritter in the Pfalz who we are happy to say produced this sparkling Riesling for us. The Sektkellerei Fitz (Sparkling-Wine-Cellar) is historically one of the most interesting in all of Germany. Produced of 100% Riesling this sparkling wine is fresh and vibrant with fine bubbles and a creamy mouth feel underscored by the beautiful stone fr... Read More »

Club Price: $12.9592 points Wine Spectator: "Lively and pure, with pear, violet, peach and mineral notes displayed on a creamy texture. Elegant and lively, with a mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2030." 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Monchhof 2006 Erdener Pralat Riesling Auslese is typically full of tangerine, orange, sassafras and honey, and typically creamy - except even more so this year. Caramel and nut brittle character wells up on the palate, adding to the sense of richness, and there is also a candied aspect to the citrus fruits. No question ... Read More »

95 points from the Wine Spectator: "This haunting wine evokes violet, black currant and slate aromas and flavors, all defined by the taut, racy structure. Light-weight, lean and intense, with a kaleidoscope of flavors on the expansive finish. Tensile. Best from 2014 through 2032. 200 cases made." (12/09) The Piesporter Goldtropfchen is a beautiful south-facing vineyard site located on a giant loop along the Mosel River. For those special occasions when no booze will do. Just give us a second, and we'll come up with one... Baby shower, perhaps, or a wine tasting for Mormons? Seriously, this is arguably the BEST non alcoholic libation we've had in a good long while. From one of Germany's most promising Sekthauses. Not at all cloying, this grapey but balanced sparkler even goes with food.

Without question one of my favorite Qbas for the past, well I don't know EIGHT YEARS! Showing the typical bright, vibrant aromatics the Monchhof Estate is so good at. A good portion of the fruit comes from the famous Urziger Wurzgarten - a beautifully steep vineyard packed full of red slate which lends its hand into giving this wine a refreshing punch of spicy fruits and clean, mouthwatering finish.(Eric Story, Buyer)

93 points Wine & Spirits: "At this stage, this feels much more open and generous than its Sonnenuhr counterpart, showing bright, floral flavors of tangerine and white peach. Its bold, rounded depth of fruit reveals more nuance and complexity the longer this sits in the glass, and it should feel even more focused and complete in a few years, after shedding its initial puppy fat." (10/09) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Very delicate, precise and detailed. Violet, slate and peach aromas are followed by mint and peach flavors, with an ever-present back note of ... Read More »

If you thought only fantastic white wines were made in Germany, think again. The 2006 got 96 points from Stephen Tanzer, who had this to say: "Brilliant ruby. Smoky aromas of raspberry, chocolate and Canadian bacon. Elegant and admirably balanced, with layers of concentrated wild berry fruit complicated by subtle herbs and spices. The silky tannins and filigree cinnamon spice are reminiscent of Richebourg. With its depth, finesse and exquisite length, this is again the finest German red wine of the vintage!"

(Web only, 2008) And according to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Schmitt's Kabinett wines...have demonstrated startling longevity, which he attributes to the magic of ancient, ungrafted vines, and his 2007 Longuicher Maximiner Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett - he assures me - came entirely from golden, ripe fruits, even though their potential alcohol was modest... 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There could scarcely be a more dramatic contrast than that between the Prums’ 2007 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese and their Bernkasteler Badstube Spatlese. Whereas the latter - for all of its delicacy - is energetic, bright, and invigorating, this Zeltinger is a soothing, creamy essence of liquid flowers, accompanied by orchard fruit essences, vanilla, malt, and nut oils. This was actually a "special label" for a Nevada merchant that never ended up taking it. Their loss is our gain! Let's call it an off dry (leaning more towards the dry) estate QbA. It has just the right amount of age and is drinking perfect for a quaffer, and check out that price!

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Selbach 2007 Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett halbtrocken smells of peach, red raspberry, herbs, and sea breeze. Bright and refreshing, this is anything but heavy, yet possesses a palpable sense of extract. Smoky, toasted nut suggestions emerge in on airing. The residual sugar here is not at all directly in evidence, but its absence would have made for a more austere and less delightful wine. This will prove highly versatile at table over the next 6-8 years, if not longer." (06/09)

Schloss Schönborn is one of Germany's largest and oldest estates and can be traced back to the times of the crusades in 1349. The estate is still family owned today. Intense and very very powerful.

This offers a slaty character typical for the vineyard. Wines from this vineyard were served in the luxurious restaurant of the Zeppelin airships in the 1920s and 1930s. (11/93) From one of Germany's most age-worthy estates, this 1992 should be expressive and delicious, with the sugars helping maintain its vibrance in the cellar. 90 Points The Wine Advocate - "Leitz’s 2007 Rudesheimer Klosterlay Riesling Kabinett exhibits a different sort of balance from many other vintages of this wine and from his “Dragonstone,” in that, at 10% alcohol, it is also noticeably drier. The nose alone receives more than your money’s worth out of this Riesling, with peaches, cherries, vanilla cream, clover and brown spices distinctively and memorably displayed. Subtle lemony citricity carries the flavors on the palate, and the finish here is as thought-provoking in its minerality as it is lusciously ... Read More »

This bottling comes from the Rosenberg vineyard in neighboring Geisenheim, long famed for its rose-scented Rieslings. In recent years, this site just hasn't had a great grower working it.
