This is a beer for your favorite beer geek, beer snob or all-around libation afficianado. It might also get your girlfriend to like beer, if she doesn't already. A limited release, the 2009 Abyss marks the fourth release of this Imperial Stout, with hints of molasses, roasted malt and anise and a rich, creamy palate. While it might be hard not to drink this 11% ABV immediately, it's actually meant to age. So make sure you buy a bottle or two to lay down for a year, two or even a decade.

According to the Denver Post: "The pour on this bad boy is rich and viscous, with a head like chocolate icing. The aroma is full of coffee and cocoa, and those hearty flavors wrap nicely around the hops and malt for a smooth, roasty fullness. The oats used in the brewing process give Ten Fidy a satisfying roundness in the mouth. A hint of molasses balances the barleywine-like 98 International Bitterness Units. Consecration is one of the Russian River Brewing Company's barrel-aged beers. Brewmaster Vinnie starts with a strong, dark ale and ages it for six months in used Cabernet Sauvignon barrels with currants, for a rich, spicy brew with a pleasant sourness and hints of tangy fruit.

Founded in the small north-German town of Jever in 1848, the Friesian Brewery in Jever hasn't changed all that much since then, except that they use ultra-modern equipment. The Jever Pils is world-famous for its fresh, slightly herbaceous brew with a slight Friesian-bitter taste.

Starts off with pleasantly strong hop flavors, balanced by a firm malt backdrop, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. A very small production beer made in memory of the Bruery's brewmaster's grandparents (Fred and Sarah Hottenroth). It's a tart Berliner Weisse made with lactobacillus and a hint of brett and a kiss of raspberry (or woodruff) syrup to cut through the tartness. A rare style.

Finding this beer in the depths of the Shelton Bros. Catalog I got really excited. I mean they are one of the best beer importers going and I love Rauchbier so I was pretty fired up. This beer pours with a nice dark amber color topped by a small, quickly disappearing head but one that persists around the edge of the glass. This just-released, super-special, barrel-aged beer from Russian River Brewing Company is like the DRC of beer. Brewed only once each year to coincide with the Hop Harvest in Yakima Washington, High Tide IPA is made with 180 lbs of Fresh Hops per batch that are plucked from the vines and sent straight to the brewery. Port Brewing Company skips the whole drying and processing stage which means the hops are ultra fresh and full of flavors one can;t normally get with dried hops. This Southern Oregon brewery released their first beer on the 4th of July in 1997, but their brews were only available in keg until 2005, when they decided to put it into cans. Cans you say? This beer is influenced by the Danish rye bread 'rugbrød,' which is a very dense, dark bread with toasty, rich flavors. It differs from the typical rye bread in that it is much denser and doesn’t have caraway seeds. Dancing pink elephants? No this beer is not like watching Dumbo under the influence of psychedelics, but it is intense. Made by Huyghe-Melle, the oldest still-active brewery in Ghent, Belgium. Their best known brew - and perhaps one of the best known Belgian beers in all the US - is the Delirium Tremens, a blonde ale with mouth-coating malt flavors, bitter peppery notes and bright, complementary fruit.
