90 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Montebuena is 100% Tempranillo. Dark ruby-colored, it offers an appealing perfume of spice box, leather, tobacco, and blackberry. On the palate it is packed with ripe fruit, has outstanding concentration, and impeccable balance. It is a great bargain that offers a sneak preview of the great 2009 vintage in Rioja and northern Spain in general. It should drink well for 6-8 years." (April 2010)

When it comes to killer value-priced Gruners like this one, more is definitely more. You will find that a liter of this in your fridge goes much much quicker than anticipated! This very dry, peppery white rings in at just 12.5% abv, and it is a cool, clean, bracing quaff with a spicy finish and notes of green melon and grapefruit. Just what a white wine should be, and nothing more.

Picpoul de Pinet is considered the "Muscadet" of the south. Grown just meters from the oyster beds of the Bassin de Thau, the wine marries perfectly with fish and shellfish. Picpoul (also known as Folle Blanche or Gros Plant) means "lip stinger," which refers to the high acidity of its must. Great with oysters and seafood. This wine is crisp, but quite long and full with nice floral and mineral notes in the nose. Bracing acidity backs up a wine with surprising breed for this price point.

Fermented and aged in stainless steel and bottled with a crown cap, this is the perfect liter, fresh, light and snappy, delivering all the thirst quenching you look for in a wine like this. The nose is textbook Grüner filled with spice and pepper, snap pea and grapefruit. It is sleek, focused and juicy owing to the wonderful bright acid structure of the vintage.

Club Price: $7.9991 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May 10: "Silver-straw color. Offers the same high-pitched, mineral-driven citrus profile of the St. Vincent but with added elements of yellow plum and pungent herbs. Lively but deeply concentrated orange and orchard fruit flavors show weightier nectarine and mango qualities in the mid-palate, with a dusty mineral element adding focus. The herbal quality repeats on the tangy finish. For the price, this is a steal."

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand is widely regarded as setting a global standard for this variety. A combination of dry and moderate climates gives near perfect cool climate growing conditions and assists with the intense varietal characters unique to Marlborough. This is a crisp and powerful, well balanced wine with intense aromas of gooseberry, passion fruit and citrus flavours. This light to medium bodied aromatic wine to match with salads, seafood and vegetarian dishes and a perfectly acceptable quaffer! 89 points Wine Spectator: "Elegant and vibran... Read More »

Rejoice Tavel! In a time when very high quality rosés line our shelves, when pink wines from Spain, the U.S., South Africa, Italy and all over the land of France are finally getting some much deserved attention in the press and from our customers, we must give Tavel its special due. This is the original rosé appellation. In fact, so good is the fabled rosé from Tavel, that by law no other sort of wine can call itself Tavel! Layers of wild strawberries collide with a spicy note, a dash of citrusy acidity and so much fruit and flower aroma, it is almost to... Read More »

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Avocate "Rocca di Montegrossi is one of the leading producers in Chianti Classico. The estate’s Rosato, made from Sangiovese, is one of the finest rosés readers are likely to encounter. The 2009 Rosato is gorgeous for its rich fabric of fruit and superb sense of harmony, qualities that accompany the wine through to the soft, enveloping finish. So many rosés today seem to be about subtraction, but Rocca di Montegrossi’s Rosato is a wine that can stand on its own, without inviting comparisons to other wines in the estate’s li... Read More »

Classic, dry, fizzy Vinho Verde does not get much better than this! This is one of our favorites: crisp, citric, relatively low in alcohol and in a classically dry style. Don't let the deliciousness fool you, though; this white offers up a whole lot more complexity than the humble price might suggest. More than likely, one could attribute this amazing quality to two factors: First, the rock solid reputation and focus on quality of the Adega Cooperativo Regional de Monçao; and second, their reliance on Trajadura and Alvarinho grapes, which deliver win... The classic Malbec aromas of ripe plum and violets are evident in the nose, with hints of vanilla. The beauty of the Malbec in Argentina is its ability to combine a rich, weighty mouth feel with a soft silkiness normally associated with lighter wines. Elsa Malbec takes the promise of the nose through to the palate, with pleasing fruit that mimics the aroma. The soft, supple palate leads to a lingering finish.

92-95 points Wine Spectator: "Dark color, with a spiced nose of cloves and cardamom. Tar too. Full-bodied, with round and velvety tannins and a rich, fruity aftertaste. Gorgeous young wine." 92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A fine and spicy wine, the wood toast well integrated with the sweet fruit. Deliciously ripe Merlot vies with the Cabernet tannins to give a dark, complex wine." (04/10) K&L's Notes: *1/2V Remember this property from 1990 and 1989? Well, it is back and fit as a fiddle. 90 points Robert Parker: "This terrific portfolio of values is led by Foxglove’s remarkable 2009 Chardonnay, a non-oaked, stainless steel-fermented and aged white that sees no malolactic fermentation. Moreover, there are 30,000 cases of this beauty, a blend of two-thirds Santa Barbara County fruit and the rest from Paso Robles and further north in Monterey. The name Moobuzz is a catchy way of referring to the Land of Milk and Honey, in other word's the astoundingly beautiful and fertile California coast. This Chardonnay is buzzing with good stuff, inlcuding value. Pear and exotic aromatics of sandlewood and Far East spices mingle on the palate with lemon ice cream and ripe pineapple. French oak is just detectable on the finish, and acidity keeps it all in check and in balance.

This little baby is a real charmer! Made up of Pinot Noir and Gamay, there are blasting aromatics of bright, spicy red fruits and just a touch of creamy texture through the finish. Definitely a lighter style of rosé, but retaining depth and structure. Fantastic for a summer salad or just on its own.

Lovely ruby colour, violet aroma. Made from Cabernet Franc grapes grown on a clay-limestone hillside, this fruity and aromatic wine develop wonderfully, even when the wine is very young. Completely destemmed and vatted for 12-18 days, depending on the year. Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel-vats. It is an elegant, round and easy to drink wine.

Some may perceive a lack of quality here, just because the Dashwood S.B. is priced so very low. That would be a big mistake. Once in a while a true value like this one crops up, and those who are willing to spend a lot less than they typically do for a bottle of wine are repaid in spades. It's got what you want (cut grass, gooseberries, crispness, acidity and refreshment) without even a hint of that overly tropical, Jolly Rancher or cat pee thing that plagues too many low end Kiwi whites. We are big fans of the Dashwood, and you should be, too!

The fruit is all hand harvested, all organically farmed and aged in stainless steel for 7 months on its lees, with some stirring for added richness. From Domaine Faverot located in the Cotes du Luberon comes this rosé, which is a blend of traditional Luberon varieties (syrah, carignan and grenache).
